Google has officially launched standalone mobile applications for its AI-powered research and note-taking assistant, NotebookLM, now available on both Android and iOS platforms. This move brings the highly anticipated tool, previously a desktop-only experience, to the fingertips of millions, just in time for Google I/O 2025.

NotebookLM, which leverages Google’s advanced Gemini 2.0 AI model, is designed to help users process and understand complex information from various sources. Since its debut last year, it has garnered significant attention for its ability to summarize documents, answer questions based on provided materials, and even generate unique content like “Audio Overviews.” The release of the mobile app addresses a top user request, enabling a more seamless and on-the-go research experience.

Key Features Making the Leap to Mobile:

The initial release of the NotebookLM mobile app retains many of the core functionalities users have come to appreciate on desktop, adapted for mobile convenience:

  • Source-Grounded Insights: Users can upload a variety of sources, including PDFs, website links, YouTube video links, and copied text, directly into a notebook. The AI then processes these sources to provide summaries, answer specific questions, and highlight connections, all with in-line citations to ensure trustworthiness and allow for easy verification.
  • Audio Overviews for On-the-Go Learning: A standout feature, Audio Overviews transform written content into podcast-style discussions with AI-generated hosts. The mobile app allows users to download these overviews for offline playback, making it ideal for commutes, workouts, or any situation where reading is impractical. Users can also engage with the AI hosts in an “Interactive Mode” (currently in beta) to ask follow-up questions and steer the conversation.
  • Seamless Content Capture: The app integrates with the native share sheets on both Android and iOS, meaning users can easily send articles, web pages, and even YouTube videos directly to NotebookLM from other applications, adding them as new sources to their existing notebooks.
  • Intuitive Interface: The mobile app features a streamlined three-panel layout (Source, Chat, and Studio) similar to the desktop version, optimized for phone and tablet screens. Users can quickly navigate between their sources, the AI chat interface, and the Audio Overview generation studio. The app also supports light and dark modes, syncing with the device’s system theme.
  • Organization and Access: The home screen presents a clear overview of all notebooks, with filtering options for recent, shared, titled, and downloaded content, ensuring easy access to ongoing projects.

While the mobile app currently supports PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, and copied text as source types, Google has indicated that more input options will be added in future updates. Features like mind maps, FAQs, study guides, timelines, and briefing documents are also expected to be rolled out in subsequent releases.

Availability and Pricing:

The NotebookLM app is now available for download on the Google Play Store for Android devices running Android 10 and above, and on the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPads with iOS 17 or newer.

Currently, NotebookLM is free for anyone with a standard Google Workspace account. Google also offers a “NotebookLM Plus” premium plan for Google Workspace Business Standard ($14 per user per month) or Business Plus ($22 per user per month) users, which provides increased limits on notebooks, sources, queries, and audio generations.

This mobile expansion signifies Google’s commitment to making powerful AI tools more accessible and integrated into users’ daily workflows, further establishing NotebookLM as a versatile assistant for students, researchers, content creators, and professionals alike.
