A brave soldier of the Indian Army was martyred after a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir‘s Udhampur district. The exchange of fire, which began late Friday evening, has since been contained to a specific area where three to four terrorists, believed to be from the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), are reportedly trapped.
The operation was launched in the Seoj Dhar forest area, a remote and difficult terrain connecting Udhampur with Bhaderwah in the Doda district. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police initiated a cordon and search operation. As the security forces closed in, the hiding terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce confrontation.
In the initial exchange, one soldier sustained critical injuries. He was immediately evacuated to a nearby military hospital but, despite the best efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries, making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. The identity of the martyred soldier has not yet been officially released, but tributes are already pouring in for the courageous individual.
The security forces have now established a tight cordon around the suspected hideout to prevent the terrorists from escaping. The operation was temporarily halted overnight due to the challenging terrain and low visibility, but it resumed with full force on Saturday morning. Additional reinforcements, including drones and sniffer dogs, have been brought in to assist with the search and neutralize the remaining militants.
The area of the encounter is known for its rugged and forested landscape, which makes anti-terror operations particularly challenging. Officials believe the trapped terrorists belong to a group that has been active in the region. The security establishment has been on high alert, conducting a series of counter-insurgency operations to thwart infiltration bids and neutralize the remnants of terror modules in the region.
This incident is the latest in a series of security operations in the Jammu division, which has seen heightened militant activity in recent months. The security forces remain resolute in their commitment to eliminating terrorism from the region and ensuring the safety and security of the people. The operation is currently ongoing, and further details are awaited.
