New Delhi, October 17, 2025: A heartwarming incident of quick thinking and courage was reported from Mumbai’s Ram Mandir Railway Station, where a baby was safely delivered on the platform. The remarkable act was accomplished with the assistance of a fellow commuter who was guided through the delivery process over a video call by a doctor. The dramatic footage of the event has since gone viral, prompting widespread praise across social media.

Emergency on the Platform

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when a woman travelling on a suburban local train suddenly went into labour. The woman, who was accompanied by her relatives, was said to have been returning from a nearby hospital after her admission was reportedly refused. As the train approached Ram Mandir station, the situation became critical.

Vikas Bedre, a cinematographer and fellow passenger, was alerted to the woman’s intense distress. Quick action was taken by him; the train’s emergency chain was immediately pulled, bringing the local to a halt at the station. Since no medical personnel or ambulance was available at the platform, a tense situation was created.

Medical Guidance from Afar

With the baby’s delivery being imminent, a friend of the commuter, Dr. Devika Deshmukh, was contacted immediately. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the doctor switched the call to a live video connection. Through this digital lifeline, detailed, step-by-step instructions were provided by Dr. Deshmukh to Bedre and the woman’s family.

Following the precise directions, an environment for the delivery was prepared using limited available resources, including sheets. Even the umbilical cord was managed by Bedre, who was instructed on how to safely cut and secure it using sterilized equipment obtained from a nearby stall.

A healthy baby boy was successfully delivered on the railway platform, amidst the cheers and claps of fellow commuters. The entire ordeal, lasting about 45 minutes, was calmly handled by Bedre, despite his admittance that he was overcome by fear.

Humanity Applauded

Both the mother and the newborn boy were later transferred to a civic hospital in an ambulance arranged by the railway staff and passengers. Both individuals are reported to be in good health. The video of the event, initially shared by an eyewitness on social media, has been widely circulated.

Bedre has been hailed as a “real-life Rancho,” a reference to a character from a popular Bollywood film who performs a similar emergency delivery. The incident has been widely praised as a powerful display of humanity, presence of mind, and the vital role that technology can play in a crisis.
