New Delhi, November 28, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently made a statement in Udupi, Karnataka, emphasizing the significant role of Udupi and Sri Madhwacharya’s spiritual legacy in the Ram Janma Bhoomi movement.

Key Points from PM Modi’s Statement:

  • Udupi’s Pivotal Contribution: PM Modi stated that the entire nation recognizes Udupi’s immense contribution and pivotal role in the struggle for the Ram Mandir.
  • Late Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji: He specifically recalled that the late Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of the Pejawar Math in Udupi had provided direction to the entire movement decades ago.
  • Honour for Madhwacharya: A special arch gate in the newly constructed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has been dedicated to Jagadguru Madhwacharya Ji, which the Prime Minister noted is a matter of great honor for Udupi. Madhwacharya, a 13th-century philosopher and proponent of Dvaita Vedanta, was an ardent devotee of Lord Ram.
  • Spiritual Legacy: The Prime Minister highlighted Udupi as a land whose spiritual legacy shaped the direction of the temple struggle, linking it to the deep traditions of devotion and service established by Madhwacharya.

PM Modi made these remarks while addressing a gathering after participating in the Laksha Geeta Pathana (mass recitation of the Bhagavad Gita) at the Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi. He also noted the deep connection between Udupi and Ayodhya, mentioning the belief that the Krishna idol in Udupi was once worshipped by Rukmini in Dwarka.
