New Delhi, December 2, 2025: A casual roadside stop for a popular street snack in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, unexpectedly escalated into a frightening medical emergency for a local woman, Inkila Devi. A widely shared video clip, showing the distressed woman being treated by doctors, quickly went viral after her attempt to bite into a single, particularly large golgappa (or pani puri) resulted in a painful jaw dislocation. The unusual incident has since become a cautionary tale for street food lovers across the country.
The incident occurred while the woman was visiting a local clinic area with a family member. An impromptu decision was made to stop at a roadside stall to enjoy some crispy, tangy golgappas. The unexpected medical crisis was triggered when Inkila Devi attempted to consume an oversized portion of the snack in one bite, forcing her mouth to open excessively wide.
It was immediately confirmed that her lower jawbone, the mandible, had been forced out of its normal position at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)

Doctors at the local clinic acted swiftly to provide initial first aid. However, the severity of the mandibular dislocation soon became apparent, and the issue could not be resolved with simple, manual measures. Attempts by the medical team to carefully manipulate the jaw back into its proper place were unsuccessful.
Due to the complexity of the case, the woman was subsequently referred to a higher medical facility for specialised treatment. It was there that her jaw was eventually reset, though family members confirmed that she continued to experience pain in the joint afterward. The incident was cited by medical experts as a clear example of how sudden and excessive mouth opening can put immense strain on the TMJ, especially when consuming large food items.
The viral nature of the video has successfully brought widespread attention to the risks associated with excessive mouth opening, even during a routine activity like eating. Medical experts were noted urging caution for snack lovers, particularly those who may have underlying jaw conditions or a history of dislocations.
It was recommended that golgappas and other oversized food items be enjoyed mindfully: by chewing slowly and taking smaller, more manageable bites. This unusual accident serves as a definitive public reminder that while street food is a source of joy, care must be taken to prevent similar, painful accidents.
