New Delhi, December 5, 2025: A deeply distressing video clip, showing young students at a government school in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, being made to carry heavy bricks on their heads and shoulders, has sparked immense public outrage. The footage, which circulated widely across social media, brought immediate attention to the alleged violation of child labor laws and the exploitation of vulnerable students by the educational institution.

Students Seen Carrying Construction Material

The widely shared footage captured primary and upper primary students, some appearing to be very young, walking within the school premises. Instead of carrying their schoolbags, the children were observed carrying stacks of bricks and other construction materials intended for ongoing building work or repairs at the school. The weight and nature of the material being carried by the small children were cited as severely inappropriate and potentially harmful.

The video immediately prompted condemnation from parents and civil rights activists, who argued that students were being forced into child labor and that their basic right to a safe, focused learning environment was being neglected by the very authorities entrusted with their care.

Education Department Orders Investigation

Following the rapid amplification of the video and the subsequent public outcry, the matter was quickly brought to the attention of the District Magistrate (DM) and the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of Raebareli. Officials confirmed that the video had been taken into immediate cognizance and that a formal inquiry had been ordered.

It was confirmed that the school principal and other staff members allegedly involved in assigning this hazardous task to the children would be thoroughly investigated. The objective of the inquiry was to establish the circumstances under which the children were compelled to carry the bricks and to take strict disciplinary action against all responsible parties, including potential suspension.

Violation of Child Rights Is Condemned

The incident was universally criticized as a clear and unacceptable violation of the basic rights of children, particularly the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Educational institutions are strictly prohibited from engaging students in any form of physical labor, especially tasks related to construction that pose a direct threat to their safety and health.

The video served as a strong and painful reminder of the persistent challenges related to accountability and supervision within certain parts of the government schooling system. The overwhelming sentiment expressed online was that the incident warranted not only disciplinary action against the staff but also a systemic audit to ensure that children are protected from exploitation within educational settings.
