December 29, 2025:— In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves across social media, a tragic road accident in Rampur claimed the life of a driver on Sunday night. A viral video capturing the moment an overloaded truck, carrying a massive load of hay (husk), overturned onto a government vehicle has underscored the growing dangers of overloaded heavy vehicles on Indian highways.
The accident occurred near the Pahadi Gate junction on the busy Nainital Road, close to the local power house.
According to eyewitness reports and CCTV footage that has since gone viral, the incident took place late Sunday evening, December 28, 2025. A Bolero SUV, belonging to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Electricity Department, was navigating the intersection when a speeding truck heading towards Bilaspur approached from behind.
As the SUV attempted to make a turn, the truck driver reportedly tried to swerve to avoid a collision. However, the sheer weight of the hay proved too much for the vehicle’s balance. The truck clipped the road divider, causing it to tilt and ultimately collapse directly onto the SUV. The smaller vehicle was instantly flattened under the weight of several tons of iron and dry husk.
The “grisly crash,” as described by many online, was captured from multiple angles by nearby security cameras and bystanders. The footage shows the terrifying speed at which the heavy vehicle toppled, leaving the driver of the SUV with no time to react.
The weight of the truck was so immense that the SUV was reduced to a heap of twisted metal. It took emergency services, including local police and rescue teams, several hours to clear the scene. Using heavy-duty cranes, the authorities managed to lift the overturned truck, but by the time they reached the driver, he had already succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as the official driver of the SDO. While the SDO himself was reportedly not in the car at the time of the impact—having just stepped out or being stationed at the nearby power house—the loss of the driver has left the department in mourning.
“It was a scene of total devastation,” said a local resident who witnessed the rescue. “The car was completely unrecognizable. We tried to help, but the weight of the truck made it impossible to move anything without machinery.”
The body was eventually extricated after cutting through the mangled remains of the Bolero and has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
This incident has reignited the debate over the regulation of overloaded commercial vehicles in Uttar Pradesh. Local activists and residents have pointed out that trucks carrying hay or straw are frequently stacked well beyond the legal height and weight limits, making them highly unstable during turns or sudden braking.
The Rampur Police have registered a case against the truck driver, who reportedly fled the scene shortly after the accident. A search operation is currently underway to apprehend him.
