New Delhi, December 29, 2025: A gruesome road accident was witnessed on the Nainital National Highway in Rampur this Sunday, leaving the local community in a state of mourning. On the afternoon of December 28, 2025, a heavy truck overloaded with husk was observed losing control while navigating a turn near the Pahadi Gate intersection. The massive vehicle toppled over, landing directly onto a moving Mahindra Bolero belonging to a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the power department. The impact was described by onlookers as instantaneous and devastating, as the smaller SUV was completely flattened under the weight of the truck and its sprawling cargo.

CCTV Footage Reveals the Fatal Moment

The chilling sequence of events was captured by a nearby CCTV camera, and the footage has since gone viral on social media platforms. In the video, the hay-laden truck is seen attempting to overtake or navigate past the Bolero at a high speed. As the truck driver swerved to avoid a divider, the shifting weight of the overloaded husk caused the vehicle to tilt and eventually crash onto the SUV moving alongside it. The screams of bystanders were heard as the road was engulfed in a cloud of dust and straw, burying the official vehicle entirely.

Casualties and the Rescue Operation

The victim of this tragic crash has been identified as Firasat, a 54-year-old driver employed by the electricity department. He was reportedly the sole occupant of the Bolero at the time of the accident. Local authorities, led by Rampur Superintendent of Police Vidyasagar Mishra, arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. A massive rescue operation was initiated involving JCB machines and cranes to lift the overturned truck. It was reported that Firasat died on the spot, and his body was recovered from the mangled remains of the SUV after hours of grueling effort by the fire service and police teams.

Outrage Over Overloaded Vehicles

The incident has reignited a fierce debate regarding the enforcement of traffic safety laws on Uttar Pradesh’s highways. It was noted by resident activists that the truck involved was visibly overloaded beyond legal limits, a common sight on the Rampur-Nainital stretch. Despite ongoing government campaigns against “overloading,” this fatal crash is being cited as a clear failure of ground-level monitoring. The local police have confirmed that the truck has been seized, and a case has been registered against the truck driver, who reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.

A Somber Reminder for Road Safety

As the year 2025 draws to a close, this grisly crash serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by commuters on busy intersections. The Nainital Highway remained blocked for several hours as the debris was cleared, with long traffic jams reported on both sides of the Pahadi Gate. The body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and efforts are underway by the administration to provide compensation to the grieving family. Public demand for stricter checks on heavy transport vehicles continues to grow in the wake of this avoidable tragedy.
