New Delhi, January 5, 2026: A wave of public concern has been triggered in the National Capital Region following the emergence of a viral video featuring a Mahindra Thar on the Dwarka Expressway. In the footage, which began circulating on January 4, 2026, a young man was observed performing a highly dangerous stunt while the vehicle was in motion. The individual was seen hanging out of the driver-side door, abandoning the steering wheel to strike poses for a camera being held by a companion in a following car.
Immediate cognizance of the social media clip was taken by the Gurugram Police after it was tagged by several concerned citizens on X (formerly Twitter). The video was analyzed by the traffic department to identify the vehicle’s registration details and the exact stretch of the expressway where the violation occurred. It was confirmed by officials that the act constitutes a severe violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, as the driver was seen jeopardizing not only his own life but also the safety of other high-speed commuters on the flyover.

A heavy financial penalty has been initiated against the owner of the white Thar identified in the video. It was reported that a challan of ₹20,000 was issued for multiple offenses, including reckless driving, traveling without a seatbelt, and performing unauthorized stunts on a public highway. Furthermore, a request has been forwarded to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) by the police to have the driver’s license permanently canceled. The authorities have emphasized that such “hooliganism” on the roads will be met with zero tolerance to prevent a culture of “reel-driven” accidents.
The Dwarka Expressway, which was designed to facilitate smooth transit between Delhi and Gurugram, is increasingly being observed as a backdrop for dangerous social media content. It was remarked by traffic experts that the wide, open lanes often tempt youngsters into performing high-stakes maneuvers for “likes” and “followers.” This latest incident follows a string of similar arrests made in late 2025, suggesting that monetary fines alone may not be sufficient to deter the growing obsession with viral fame among affluent youth.
A stern warning was issued by the Gurugram Traffic Police through their official social media handles, urging parents to monitor the activities of their children when using high-powered SUVs. It was stated that the “thrill” of a 30-second video is never worth the risk of a fatal crash or a permanent criminal record. Enhanced patrolling and the installation of high-definition speed cameras were announced for the Dwarka Expressway to ensure that every violation is caught in real-time. As the year 2026 begins, the message remains clear: the highway is a path for travel, not a playground for influencers.
