New Delhi, January 6, 2026: A disturbing video has surfaced on social media platforms in early January 2026, causing a significant stir in the political landscape of Bihar. In the 54-second clip, a man dressed in a blazer and civil clothes is observed brutally slapping a youth while hurling verbal abuses. The aggressor is heard making provocative political statements, asking the victim, “Do you live at Samrat Choudhary’s place?” and identifying himself as “Anti-BJP.” The footage, which reportedly originated from the Kankarbagh area of Patna, was quickly picked up by various users who claimed that the assailant was a policeman acting out of political bias against the Deputy CM and Home Minister, Samrat Choudhary.
The video gained rapid traction as it appeared to show the youth being threatened with a pair of pliers while several individuals in police uniforms sat nearby, seemingly acting as silent spectators. Initial social media reports suggested that the youth was being targeted simply for his alleged association with the BJP leader. It was alleged that the victim was a student or a common citizen who was being coerced into paying a “ten-fold fine” under the threat of physical mutilation. This narrative led to widespread condemnation of the Bihar Police, with many questioning the neutrality and discipline of the force.

Following the public outcry, an investigation was immediately launched by the Patna Police and the Bihar Police Cyber Cell. It was discovered that the incident did not take place inside a police station, as was initially rumored, but rather at a private commercial establishment—specifically, a Vishal Mega Mart outlet in Kankarbagh. The victim was reportedly apprehended by the mall’s staff on suspicion of shoplifting clothes. The investigation further clarified that the primary aggressor seen in the blazer was not a police officer, but a former floor manager of the store.
By January 5, 2026, the Patna Police confirmed that two individuals involved in the assault had been identified and arrested. The main accused, identified as Rashid Iqbal, was found to be an outside supplier who had previously worked at the mall. It was remarked by the police that while Rashid was wearing khaki-colored trousers—often associated with police uniforms—he had no official connection to the department. The provocative mentions of Samrat Choudhary and “Anti-BJP” sentiments were described by investigators as a malicious attempt by the accused to intimidate the youth and potentially misdirect any subsequent legal inquiry.
This case serves as a stark reminder of how easily the context of a video can be manipulated to create a political firestorm. While the assault was real and legally indefensible, the claim that it was a case of “politically motivated police brutality” was found to be entirely false. It was stated by the authorities that the law does not permit private individuals or mall staff to take the law into their own hands, regardless of the allegations against a suspect. The public is urged to refrain from sharing such sensitive clips until the official facts are established by law enforcement agencies.
