New Delhi, January 9, 2026: A profound sense of shock has been felt across Uttar Pradesh following the emergence of a viral video involving a 14-year-old girl from Kanpur. On January 7, 2026, a heart-wrenching clip began circulating in which the minor and her brother accused a police sub-inspector of a brutal gangrape. The teenager alleged that while she was walking near the railway tracks in the Sachendi area on Monday night, she was forcibly dragged into a black SUV by two men, one of whom was wearing a police uniform.

Allegations of Custodial Brutality

The details provided by the survivor have painted a grim picture of abuse of power. It was stated by the girl that she was held captive inside the vehicle for nearly two hours, during which she was subjected to a horrific sexual assault. The main accused has been identified as Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya, who was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time of the abduction. Despite the victim’s cries for help, she was allegedly assaulted by the officer and his associate, a local YouTuber named Shivbaran Yadav, before being dumped unconscious near her home.

Systemic Failure and Police Inaction

The most significant outrage has been directed toward the local police station’s initial handling of the case. It was alleged by the victim’s brother that when they first approached the Sachendi police outpost, their complaints were dismissed, and the involvement of a fellow officer was suppressed. The viral video, recorded out of sheer desperation, revealed that the Station House Officer (SHO) Vikram Singh had allegedly misbehaved with the family and initially refused to invoke the POCSO Act. It was only after the footage gained millions of views that senior officials were forced to take notice.

High-Level Suspensions and Arrests

In a swift crackdown following the public outcry, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal took decisive action on January 8, 2026. The SHO of Sachendi was suspended for “distortion of facts” and negligence, while the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) was removed from his post. The co-accused, Shivbaran Yadav, has been arrested and is currently being interrogated. However, the primary suspect, Sub-Inspector Maurya, remains absconding, with four specialized police teams currently conducting raids across the district to apprehend him.

A Community Demanding Accountability

As of January 9, 2026, the incident has become a focal point for political leaders and activists demanding an end to “police impunity.” Protests have been organized in Kanpur, with citizens calling for the strictest possible punishment for those who are meant to be protectors but become predators. The viral video stands as a chilling testament to the power of social media in breaking through institutional barriers. For the young survivor, the journey for justice has only just begun, as the state is now under immense pressure to prove that no one—not even a man in uniform—is above the law.
