New Delhi, january 31, 2026: In a significant move to strengthen the administrative framework of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena has formally relieved two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from the Government of NCT of Delhi.
The two officers, Ms. Anjali Sehrawat and Shri Kumar Abhishek, are now set to join the Jammu and Kashmir administration following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The officers belong to the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre, which allows for inter-state and inter-territory transfers to meet regional governance needs.
The order, issued on January 30, 2026, follows a major bureaucratic reshuffle initiated by the MHA earlier this month. On January 4, the Ministry ordered the transfer of 31 IAS and 18 IPS officers across various segments of the AGMUT cadre.
This reshuffle is part of a broader strategy to ensure that Union Territories like Jammu and Kashmir are equipped with experienced officers capable of executing central development schemes and streamlining local governance.
“The officers have been formally relieved of their duties in the Delhi Government with effect from the afternoon of January 31, 2026, to enable them to take up their new assignments in Jammu and Kashmir,” stated the official order from the Delhi Services Department.
Both Sehrawat and Abhishek are expected to report for duty in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of the first week of February. Their specific portfolios within the J&K administration will be announced following their arrival and formal induction.
This transition comes at a time when the J&K administration is focusing heavily on infrastructure development and digitizing public services, areas where both officers have demonstrated competence during their tenures in the national capital.
