New Delhi, February 11, 2026: In a shocking incident that has rattled the Shivaji Nagar area of Govandi, Mumbai, a 19-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The Mumbai Police have since arrested two individuals—the victim’s boyfriend and another woman—under the suspicion that the murder was the culmination of a volatile “love triangle.”
The victim, identified as Shifa Shaikh, was a resident of Kamala Raman Nagar in Govandi. According to police reports, the incident occurred around noon when Shifa stepped out of her home to have tea at a local stall.
Witnesses described hearing a loud sound that many initially mistook for a motorcycle backfire or a firecracker. However, the reality became clear moments later when Shifa was found collapsed on the road with critical bullet wounds to her neck and cheek.
Locals rushed her to the Shatabdi Hospital, but she was tragically declared dead on arrival. A subsequent medical examination revealed that the shots were fired from a very close range, with one bullet found lodged in her skull.
Following the shooting, the Shivaji Nagar Police and the Mumbai Crime Branch launched a joint investigation. Because the locality is densely populated and primarily houses daily wage workers and artisans, police faced initial difficulty as many witnesses were hesitant to speak.
The breakthrough came from CCTV footage and technical surveillance. Investigators spotted a man and a woman moving suspiciously in the vicinity shortly before and after the crime. Based on this intelligence and the statement of Shifa’s family, the police shifted their focus toward her personal relationships.
By Wednesday morning, February 11, police confirmed the arrest of two suspects:
“The primary motive appears to be a ‘love triangle.’ The accused woman was reportedly infatuated with Guddu, leading to frequent friction and heated arguments between the three,” a police official stated.
Authorities are currently probing whether the woman carried out the shooting herself or if it was a coordinated hit planned with Guddu. While the motive of jealousy is the leading theory, police are also investigating Guddu’s alleged involvement in the local drug trade to see if other criminal rivalries played a role.
The Shivaji Nagar Police have registered a case of murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Shifa’s body has been sent to JJ Hospital for a detailed postmortem. Her mobile phone has been seized for forensic analysis to trace the final communications between the trio.
This incident has once again raised concerns regarding the accessibility of illegal firearms in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai and the safety of residents in crowded neighborhoods.
