New Delhi, February 12, 2026: In a development that has captured national attention, the Kanpur police on Thursday arrested Shivam Mishra, the son of prominent tobacco industrialist K.K. Mishra, in connection with a high-profile luxury car accident. The arrest follows a four-day investigation into a reckless driving incident involving a Lamborghini Revuelto—a supercar valued at over ₹10 crore—that left several people injured on the city’s busy VIP Road.

The Incident: A Sunday of Chaos

The accident occurred around 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in the upscale Gwaltoli area. According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, the speeding Italian sports car lost control near the Ring Wala Chauraha.

The sequence of events was harrowing:

  • The vehicle first collided with an auto-rickshaw, driven by 18-year-old Mohd Taufeeq.
  • Instead of stopping, the car reportedly accelerated, hitting a stationary Royal Enfield motorcycle.
  • The impact was so severe that the motorcyclist was reportedly flung nearly 10 feet into the air.
  • The car finally came to a halt after mounting a divider and crashing into an electric pole.

At least six people sustained injuries, ranging from severe leg fractures to multiple bruises. In the immediate aftermath, angry locals surrounded the vehicle, but private security bouncers traveling in a trailing SUV allegedly intervened to whisk Shivam Mishra away from the scene.

Police Action and The “Dummy Driver” Twist

Initially, an FIR was registered against an “unidentified driver.” However, as public outrage grew and videos of the crash went viral, the Kanpur Police, led by Commissioner Raghubir Lal, identified Shivam Mishra as the individual behind the wheel.

The case took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when a man named Mohan surfaced, claiming he was the designated driver and that Shivam was merely a passenger who had suffered a medical emergency. The police firmly rejected this claim, citing:

  1. CCTV Evidence: Footage clearly showing Shivam in the driver’s seat.
  2. Eyewitness Statements: Bystanders confirmed seeing bouncers pull Shivam out of the driver’s side.
  3. Digital Forensics: Data from the high-end vehicle’s internal systems.

Allegations of Medical Emergency

The Mishra family has maintained that Shivam suffered an epileptic seizure or a sudden blackout while driving, leading to the loss of control. While the police are facilitating medical tests to verify these claims, they noted that the accused had been “evading cooperation” for several days before his arrest from a local hospital on Thursday morning.

A History of Spotlight and Luxury

Shivam Mishra is no stranger to the headlines. He is a director at Banshidhar Tobacco Group, one of India’s oldest tobacco firms.

  • 2024 I-T Raids: The family previously made news when the Income Tax department raided their premises, reportedly discovering a fleet of luxury cars including Rolls-Royces, McLarens, and Ferraris, alongside significant undisclosed assets.
  • Lifestyle: Shivam is well-known for his “4018” signature registration numbers across his multi-crore car collection.

Current Status

Shivam Mishra has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including sections for reckless driving and endangering life. Following his arrest, he was presented before a local court and sent to police remand. Meanwhile, the local Station House Officer (SHO) of Gwaltoli has been removed from his post due to alleged procedural lapses during the initial hours of the investigation.
