On March 26, 2026, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and T-Series head Bhushan Kumar officially announced their major cinematic collaboration: a high-octane war drama titled Operation Sindoor.

The film is set to chronicle one of the most significant chapters in India’s recent military history—the 2025 multi-domain strikes against terror infrastructure. This announcement has quickly become the talk of the industry, marking a partnership between a director known for hard-hitting, research-based narratives and India’s biggest production powerhouse.

The Inspiration: From Pages to the Big Screen

The film is an official adaptation of the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan, authored by Lt Gen K.J.S. ‘Tiny’ Dhillon (Retd).

The narrative centers on the events following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, where 26 civilians—predominantly tourists—were killed. In a swift and calibrated response on May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces launched “Operation Sindoor,” a series of precision missile and air strikes that dismantled nine key terror launchpads across the border.

Key Highlights of the Film’s Subject:

  • The Catalyst: The brutal massacre of innocent travelers at Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam.
  • The Response: A 23-minute high-precision strike involving Rafale jets, SCALP missiles, and indigenous loitering munitions.
  • The Scope: Unlike previous surgical strikes, this operation was a multi-domain offensive that established a “new normal” in India’s counter-terrorism doctrine.

A “Revelation,” Not Just a Movie

During the announcement, both the filmmaker and the producer emphasized that the project aims for historical accuracy over mere cinematic flair.

“Some stories are not chosen, they choose you,” said Bhushan Kumar. “Operation Sindoor is a story that demands to be told with honesty and responsibility. It is not just a film; it is a revelation of our national resolve.”

Vivek Agnihotri, who recently concluded his “Files” trilogy with The Bengal Files (2025), shared that his team has conducted extensive ground-level research in collaboration with multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces. He noted that the film will uncover details “far more complex and unsettling than what is currently in the public domain.”

Production and Expectations

The project is being jointly produced by T-Series and Agnihotri’s I Am Buddha Productions. While the primary cast and release date remain under wraps, the film is expected to be a massive theatrical event, likely featuring a mix of seasoned veterans and fresh talent to maintain the realism Agnihotri is known for.

The collaboration comes at a time when the Indian audience is gravitating toward “Aatmanirbhar” (self-reliant) stories and military procedurals. With Agnihotri’s track record of sparking national conversations and T-Series’ massive distribution reach, Operation Sindoor is poised to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2027.
