New Delhi, April 3, 2026: In what is being hailed as the most monumental cinematic event in modern Indian history, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra have officially pulled back the curtain on their highly anticipated mythological epic, Ramayana. Marking the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the filmmakers released the very first glimpse of the film, a 2-minute and 38-second teaser appropriately titled ‘Rama’.

The teaser has immediately set the internet ablaze, offering audiences their first look at Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the revered role of Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama.

A Glimpse of Divinity and High-Octane Visuals

The teaser opens with breathtaking, panoramic vistas of ancient India and heavily detailed battlefields, quickly setting a tone of immense scale. The legendary city of Ayodhya and the Ashok Vatika are brought to life through state-of-the-art visual effects. The defining moment of the clip features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, standing against the backdrop of a rising sun. Clad in elegant golden ornaments and sporting long hair, Kapoor carries a faint, serene smile that perfectly embodies the grace, composure, and quiet strength associated with the divine figure.

The makers accompanied the release with a powerful message that captures the essence of the character:

“Rama is the greatest of all time because he lived a life where the choices he made were always in the benefit of the greater good, duty over desire, and sacrifice over self.”

The teaser does not just focus on the protagonist. It cleverly builds up the conflict by concluding with a striking, silhouette-heavy shot of the formidable antagonist, Ravana—portrayed by Kannada superstar Yash—as he steps toward his legendary flying machine, the Pushpak Vimana.

A Global Collaboration of Epic Proportions

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is not merely another film; it is a global undertaking. Reportedly mounted on a massive budget crossing ₹4,000 crore, it stands as India’s most expensive cinematic production to date. To do complete justice to the ancient epic, producer Namit Malhotra (of Prime Focus and the Oscar-winning VFX giant DNEG) has united the finest creative minds from around the world.

The technical and musical credits for the film are unprecedented:

  • The Musical Score: In a historic crossover, Indian maestro A.R. Rahman is collaborating with Hollywood legend Hans Zimmer to craft the score.
  • The Action: Masterminding the grand battles are Hollywood stunt choreographers Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Terry Notary (Avengers).
  • The Ensemble Cast: Alongside Kapoor and Yash, the film stars Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.

Overcoming Hesitation and Finding Deeper Meaning

Speaking at a special promotional event, Ranbir Kapoor candidly admitted that when he was first offered the role about four years ago, he initially declined. He felt that he was “not good enough” and would not be able to do full justice to a figure who has served as the conscience keeper for billions of people across centuries.

However, Kapoor noted that becoming a father to his daughter, Raha, served as a massive turning point in his life. The lifestyle changes and newfound responsibility gave him the confidence and perspective needed to embrace the monumental character. Director Nitesh Tiwari defended his choice to cast Kapoor, explaining that Lord Rama was a man of few words whose unbound love and silent pain required an actor of immense emotional depth.

Global Hype and Internet Debates

The reception to the teaser has been massive and polarized in the best way a blockbuster can be. While many fans have praised the breathtaking scale, Kapoor’s majestic look, and the cinematic depth of the environments, others have debated the heavy use of CGI. Interestingly, the teaser has received glowing reviews from Western cinephiles, with some international film platforms comparing its staggering visual ambition to legendary fantasy franchises like The Lord of the Rings.

Ramayana is designed as a magnificent two-part saga shot specifically for the IMAX experience. The wait for the final product will not be too long, as Ramayana: Part One is officially scheduled to conquer global box offices during the Diwali 2026 weekend, with the concluding Part Two scheduled to follow in 2027.
