CRPF CoBRA Commando Alleges Attack on Family in UP Kanpur

New Delhi, June 11, 2026: A shocking incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, where an elite Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) CoBRA commando has made an emotional appeal for justice. Currently deployed in the highly sensitive Naxal-affected areas of Jharkhand, the jawan released a video that went viral across social media platforms. In the video, he details a terrifying assault on his vulnerable family at their home, raising critical questions about the safety of defense personnel’s dependents while they serve the nation on the frontlines.

The Incident: Threat at Midnight

The commando, identified as Manish Kumar, belongs to the Maharajpur area of Kanpur. According to reports, the terrifying ordeal took place on Monday night when Kumar was far away on operational duty. A local history-sheeter—identified by police as C D S Verma, alias Golden Verma—allegedly arrived at the jawan’s residence in a heavily intoxicated state.

Kumar alleged that the accused attempted to aggressively break down the front door to gain entry into the house. At the time of the incident, the only people inside the home were Kumar’s physically disabled elderly mother, his wife Sonika Devi, and their minor children.

When the family refused to open the doors, the situation escalated dramatically. The accused reportedly unleashed a barrage of verbal abuse, pelted heavy stones and bricks at the structure, and issued blatant death threats to the terrified family members huddled inside.

“Should We Guard the Nation or Our Own Homes?”

Distressed by the narrow escape of his family and their ongoing state of terror, Commando Manish Kumar recorded a video message from his place of deployment. The footage quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread public support and sparking immense outrage over the vulnerability of a soldier’s household.

In the viral video, an emotional yet firm Kumar asks a deeply poignant question that resonated with millions of viewers:

Kumar further revealed that this was not an isolated display of aggression by the offender. He alleged that the same individual had harassed and targeted his family in both 2013 and 2019. Despite filing formal police complaints during those previous instances, Kumar claimed that the local police only invoked minor, non-stringent charges, which ultimately emboldened the habitual criminal to strike again.

Police Respond as Public Outrage Grows

As the video continued to amass thousands of views and triggered sharp criticism against the local law enforcement machinery, senior officials of the Kanpur Police Commissionerate rushed to handle the situation and reassure the public.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abhishek Pandey addressed the media regarding the ongoing development. He confirmed that a formal First Information Report (FIR) had been promptly registered at the Maharajpur police station. The criminal case was filed based on the written complaint submitted by the commando’s wife, Sonika Devi.

Providing further context on the ongoing investigation, ACP Pandey stated:

  • Extended Family Dispute: Initial inquiries indicate that the accused, Golden Verma, and the complainant’s family belong to the same extended lineage, pointing toward deep-rooted personal or property-related friction.
  • Prior Preventive Action: The police clarified that the accused is a known troublemaker in the locality. Measures under the stringent Goonda Act had already been initiated against him a few months ago.
  • Banishment Proceedings: The department confirmed that externment (tadipaar) proceedings—a legal process to legally banish a habitual criminal from city limits—were already underway against Verma prior to this incident.

The Kanpur police have formed dedicated search teams to trace the absconding history-sheeter. Authorities have assured the public that the culprit will be apprehended soon and subjected to strict legal action, while patrolling around the commando’s residence has been increased to ensure the family’s immediate safety.

The Larger Debate: Frontline Security vs. Domestic Safety

This distressing incident in Kanpur has reignited a critical national conversation surrounding the institutional support provided to the families of active-duty soldiers. Paramilitary forces, particularly the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit of the CRPF, operate under extreme stress in the country’s most hazardous terrains to counter internal security threats like Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).

Legal experts and defense veterans online have expressed deep solidarity with Kumar, pointing out that when commandos are stationed in deep jungles or remote border outposts with zero network connectivity, the psychological peace of knowing their families are secure at home is paramount to their operational focus.

The immediate community and social media commentators are now closely watching the Uttar Pradesh administration, demanding that the police set a strong precedent by dealing with local elements who target the households of servicemen with an iron fist.
