6 Passengers Land from ‘at risk’ country, For Genome Sequencing Samples are Sent to Laboratory

Four persons are traced from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivali, Meera-Bhayandar, and Pune areas.

Mumbai: Six people who came from the Omicron-affected country have been admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital on Wednesday. Officials said four of them are tested Covid positive and the others showed some Covid symptoms. Contacts tracing is undergoing for all six travelers.

Four persons are traced from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivali, Meera-Bhayandar, and Pune areas. Others two arrived from Nigeria and they have been found in Pimpri-Chinchwad. They are now in the hospital.

On Wednesday from midnight to 4 pm total of 11 international flights are landed from “at-risk” countries in India at various airports except for Lucknow. These flights have carried 3476 passengers and all of them are tested RT-PCR test in the airport. 4 of them are tested covid positive and 2 others are showed covid symptoms.

The official told that for genome sequencing if they have the new Covid variant, Omicron their samples have been already sent to the National Centre for Disease Control. And all six persons have been admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP). A well set up has been made therefore isolating and treating such Covid patients.

The hospital authority said that the other two passengers though tested negative but they have some Covid like symptoms. That’s why they are not released from the hospital. Total six patients are now in hospital.

Gauri Agarwal, Director of Genestrings Diagnostic Laboratory which conducts the Covid tests at the airport, said, “We are running approximately close to 2,000 tests per day. We are also ensuring utmost care in handling the samples.”

According to the laboratory centre, the European countries including South Africa, Botswana, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, the UK, China, and Israel are designated as ”at-risk” countries in India. From Tuesday midnight the travelers who are coming to India from these countries are given additional measures.

Under the new covid rule of Indian Government the passengers landing from the “at-risk” countries, RT-PCR tests are mandatory. Only after coming to the results, they are allowed to leave the airport but they have to maintain the quarantine protocol for 7 days. If anyone is found as covid positive then the passenger will be shifted to covid hospital immediately.
