Southern States Continue to Lead in CBSE Performance: A Region-Wise Look at Previous Years
While the CBSE Class 10th and 12th Results for 2025 are keenly awaited, analyzing the regional performance in previous years provides valuable insights into academic trends. Consistently, the southern regions of India have demonstrated outstanding results in both Class 10th and Class 12th board examinations. Trivandrum: The Undisputed Champion Trivandrum (Kerala) has consistently held the top position in region-wise results for both Class 10th and Class 12th in 2022, 2023, and 2024. This unbroken streak highlights the exceptional academic environment and dedication within CBSE-affiliated schools in the Trivandrum region. Strong Performance from Chennai and Bengaluru Following Trivandrum’s lead, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) has consistently secured a place within the top three regions for both classes across the same three years. Bengaluru (Karnataka) also demonstrated strong academic performance, holding the second rank in both 2022 and 2023 for both Class 10th and 12th. Although Bengaluru’s ranking shifted in 2024, its consistent presence at the top signifies a strong educational foundation in the region. Vijayawada’s Impressive Ascent A significant development in recent years has been the rise of Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) as a high-performing region. In the 2024 results, Vijayawada impressively climbed to the second position in both Class 10th and Class 12th, indicating a notable improvement in academic outcomes in this region. Fluctuating Performances in Other Regions While the southern states have exhibited remarkable consistency, other regions across India have shown more variability in their rankings. Delhi West has generally maintained a position within the top five regions for both Class 10th and 12th. In contrast, Delhi East experienced a decline in its Class 12th ranking, moving from second in 2022 to seventh in 2024. Similarly, Chandigarh‘s rankings have also fluctuated over the past three years. Emerging Regions Showing Promise Regions like Ajmer (Rajasthan) and Pune (Maharashtra) have consistently secured competitive positions within the top ten for both classes, indicating a stable and improving academic environment. Furthermore, Patna (Bihar) and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) are showing a growing presence in the rankings, suggesting a positive trajectory in educational achievements in these areas. Overall Pass Percentages and Gender Disparity Looking at the broader trends, the overall pass percentages for both Class 10th and Class 12th have remained high. In 2024, the national pass percentage for Class 10th was 93.60%, and for Class 12th, it was 87.98%. A recurring trend is the better performance of girls compared to boys. In the 2024 Class 12th results, girls achieved a pass percentage of 91.52%, while boys had a pass percentage of 85.12%. CBSE’s Policy on Toppers Continuing its policy to discourage unhealthy competition, the CBSE does not release official lists of toppers or declare overall percentages. The focus remains on individual subject-wise performance and grades. As the CBSE prepares to announce the Class 10th and 12th Results for 2025, the consistent strong performance of the southern regions, particularly Trivandrum, alongside the emergence of regions like Vijayawada, offers valuable insights into the educational landscape of the country. While students nationwide await their results, the historical data underscores the regional variations and the sustained academic excellence in the southern states.
