August OTT Releases: From Thrillers to Comedy

New Delhi, 8 August, 2025:This August, a diverse array of new content is being made available across major over-the-top (OTT) platforms, promising to keep audiences entertained with a variety of genres. From high-stakes espionage thrillers to heartwarming family dramas and laugh-out-loud comedies, a wide selection of movies and series is being presented for streaming.

Among the most highly anticipated releases is “Tehran,” a geopolitical thriller starring John Abraham and Manushi Chhillar. This film, inspired by real events like the 2012 Israeli Embassy blast in Delhi, is set to be released on Zee5 on August 14. A tense and gripping narrative is expected to be delivered, as a man is caught in a web of politics and shifting alliances across India, Iran, and Israel.

Another notable release that has been generating significant buzz is “Saare Jahan Se Accha,” a spy thriller series starring Pratik Gandhi. This show, which was initially developed for Netflix, is now being released on JioHotstar on August 13. The story, which follows a battle of wits between an Indian spy and his cross-border adversary, promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats with its high-stakes plot and suspenseful sequences.

For fans of comedy, “Housefull 5” has been made available for streaming on Prime Video. As the latest installment in the long-running franchise, this film introduces a new twist by blending its signature chaos with a comedy-thriller format. The movie, which features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Riteish Deshmukh, is set on a luxury cruise ship where a group of impostors competes to inherit a billionaire’s fortune.

Additionally, a variety of other exciting titles are being added to the streaming catalogs. Netflix subscribers are being treated to the second season of the popular supernatural mystery series, “Wednesday,” which is being released in two parts, with the first part having already dropped on August 6. A British murder mystery film, “The Thursday Murder Club,” based on a novel, will also be made available on Netflix on August 22.

JioHotstar is further expanding its lineup with a number of original series and reality shows. “Salakaar,” another geopolitical thriller, has been released, following a deep-cover spy who faces the ghosts of a past mission. A reality show, “Pati Patni Aur Panga,” which brings together celebrity couples for a mix of confessions and competition, has also been made available for fans of unscripted drama.

In the realm of regional cinema, Prime Video has made the Telugu survival drama “Arabia Kadali” available, which follows a group of fishermen imprisoned in a foreign country. Meanwhile, the Tamil family drama “Maaman” has been released on Zee5.

This month’s varied selection of releases across Netflix, JioHotstar, and Prime Video ensures that a wide range of tastes are being catered to, from dramatic thrillers and emotional family stories to lighthearted comedies and popular reality shows.
