In a powerful display of political ambition, actor-turned-politician ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay held the second state-level conference of his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Madurai. The event, attended by a massive crowd of supporters, served as a platform for Vijay to declare his intent to make political history in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Setting Sights on a Historic Victory

During his address, Vijay drew parallels to the historic electoral victories of the DMK in 1967 and the AIADMK in 1977. He asserted that in 2026, the TVK would similarly create a new record and usher in a new era of politics in the state. Vijay made it clear that his party is a “self-respecting alliance” and would not be part of any “servile coalition.” He declared that the TVK would contest all 234 assembly seats in the 2026 elections independently.

Direct Attacks on DMK and BJP

The conference saw Vijay launching direct attacks on both the ruling DMK and the central government’s BJP. He labeled the DMK as his “political enemy” and urged his party cadres to work towards dislodging the Stalin government in 2026. Vijay accused the DMK of betraying various sections of the public, including women and government employees, with false electoral promises.

Addressing the BJP, Vijay referred to the party as his “ideological enemy.” He stated that the BJP could never win in Tamil Nadu by insulting revered leaders like Periyar and Annadurai. He emphasized that Tamil Nadu is a secular land where the BJP’s divisive policies would not succeed. Vijay also criticized the central government for its perceived neglect of fishermen’s issues and its stance on the NEET exam, which he claimed went against the interests of the Tamil people. He reiterated the long-standing demand for the retrieval of the Katchatheevu island from Sri Lanka.

A Resounding Message from the Stage

From the stage in Madurai, Vijay also took an indirect jab at the AIADMK, expressing sadness over the current state of a party founded by a great leader like MGR. He said that many AIADMK cadres were unhappy with their party’s condition. While drawing comparisons to late leaders like MGR and Vijayakanth, he affirmed that his party’s objective is to work for the welfare of the youth, farmers, laborers, fishermen, and other marginalized sections of society.

In a significant announcement, Vijay stated that he would contest the 2026 elections from the Madurai East assembly constituency. He also highlighted that the safety of women, girls, and the elderly would be his party’s top priority.

The conference and Vijay’s speech have undoubtedly positioned him as a serious contender in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. His bold statements and claims have stirred the political dynamics of the state, setting the stage for a compelling and closely-watched election in 2026.
