November 15, 2025: A public message was sent by Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, to his rival Jeff Bezos following a recent historic milestone achieved by Bezos’s company, Blue Origin.
The congratulatory message was prompted by the successful landing of Blue Origin’s massive New Glenn rocket booster on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean. This achievement was secured on the booster’s second flight attempt, and it marked a pivotal moment, as Blue Origin became only the second private company, after SpaceX, to master the complex technology of landing an orbital-class rocket booster for reuse. The mission also involved the successful launch and deployment of NASA’s ESCAPADE twin-spacecraft, which were sent on a mission to Mars.
The congratulations were offered by Musk on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to Blue Origin’s announcement of the successful landing.
This brief but significant message was noted as a display of sportsmanship amidst the high-stakes commercial space rivalry between the two billionaire-led companies. The achievement by Blue Origin, particularly in reusable rocket technology, is being regarded as a major challenge to the market dominance long held by SpaceX.
