New Delhi, December 1, 2025: A shocking viral video capturing India Post (Railway Mail Service or RMS) staff carelessly tossing parcels and mailbags directly onto railway tracks has triggered massive public outrage and prompted immediate action from the postal authority. The footage, believed to have been recorded at the MBDP Junction (Pratapgarh) in Uttar Pradesh, exposed a blatant disregard for customer packages, many of which contain valuable or fragile items, seriously damaging public trust in the national logistics system.

The Reckless Handling Is Documented

The brief but impactful clip, which was widely shared across platforms like Instagram and X, showed India Post employees unloading mail from a train coach. Instead of utilizing proper carts or personnel, packages were observed being flung one after another with striking indifference onto the tracks below. The person filming the video was heard expressing shock and disbelief at the scene, sarcastically commenting on the “care” being shown for the public’s parcels.

The footage immediately became a point of major concern. Many viewers expressed anger over the potential damage to their packages, with hypothetical examples of fragile items like electronics being ruined due to the careless mishandling. The sheer visibility of the act, conducted in a public space, fueled the intensity of the negative public reaction.

India Post Acknowledges and Regrets

Following the rapid viral spread and the resulting public condemnation, an official response was issued by India Post. Through its verified social media channels, the department sincerely regretted the incident shown in the video. It was confirmed that the matter had been taken cognizance of and that necessary action had been initiated to address the serious negligence. The department further assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring the safe handling of all mail.

A subsequent departmental investigation was launched and confirmed the authenticity of the video. Senior officials were reported to have sought explanations from the staff involved and conducted an on-site inspection at the Pratapgarh railway station.

Infrastructure Deficiencies Are Cited

The internal inquiry later revealed a significant contributing factor to the unsafe handling practices. It was stated that employees, reportedly working under pressure to ensure timely dispatch of high volumes of mail, resorted to the incorrect and unsafe method due to a lack of proper infrastructure.

Specifically, the investigation pointed to the absence of a sloped footbridge linking the platforms with the Railway Mail Service (RMS) office. Without this crucial access, trolleys cannot be used efficiently for transporting mailbags, forcing staff to cross the tracks and resort to improper handling. Disciplinary action has since been initiated against the employees found responsible for the gross negligence. Additionally, a formal request has been sent to the Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow, urging that necessary infrastructural upgrades be implemented to support smoother RMS operations and prevent recurrence of the issue.
