New Delhi, December 1, 2025: The Kannada film industry and the family of popular actress Ashika Ranganath are reeling from a devastating loss following the tragic death of her 22-year-old cousin, Achala. The young woman reportedly died by suicide, with her family alleging she was driven to the extreme step due to continuous sexual and mental harassment.

The incident, which occurred on November 22nd at a relative’s house in Panduranga Nagar, Bengaluru, has sent shockwaves through the community. Achala, a bright engineering graduate, was a cousin of Ashika Ranganath through her maternal uncle’s side.

Allegations of Harassment Against Distant Relative

The victim’s family has come forward with grave allegations, pointing the finger at a distant relative identified as Mayank. According to the family, Mayank allegedly initiated a relationship with Achala under the pretense of love. However, the situation reportedly turned sinister when he began pressuring her for a physical relationship before marriage. When Achala refused his demands, the harassment escalated significantly.

Reports suggest that Mayank is a drug addict and allegedly resorted to violence and severe mental distress after her refusal. The family claims that the constant phone calls, stalking, and mental torture from Mayank ultimately pushed the young woman to take her own life.

Family Demands Immediate Justice

The distraught parents and relatives are demanding swift justice, criticizing the pace of the police investigation. A case has been registered at the Hassan City Police Station against both the alleged harasser, Mayank, and his mother, Maina. The charges reportedly include abetment of suicide and other relevant sections.

Despite the registration of the case and the family presenting what they claim is substantial evidence, the main accused has reportedly not been arrested even ten days after the tragic event. This delay has fueled the family’s anger and frustration, leading to renewed demands for the immediate arrest of those responsible for Achala’s death. They believe that both Mayank and his mother are accountable for their daughter’s demise.

Silence from the Star

Actress Ashika Ranganath, known for her roles in films like Raambo 2 and Madhagaja, has maintained a public silence regarding the tragedy, presumably grieving in private with her family during this intensely difficult time.

The death of the promising 22-year-old shines a painful light on the issue of harassment and the urgent need for timely justice in such cases. The family’s plea for the arrest of the accused echoes the wider community’s demand for a thorough and expedited investigation.
