New Delhi, December 20, 2025: In late December 2025, the internet has been flooded with a spectacular video claiming to show football icon Lionel Messi being greeted by a massive, glowing crowd during his “GOAT India Tour” visit to Gujarat. The footage, which shows thousands of fans waving mobile flashlights to a rhythmic beat, has been widely circulated with captions suggesting it was filmed during a grand reception at Vantara in Jamnagar. However, a detailed fact-check has confirmed that the visuals have been misattributed. The viral clip is actually from a Coldplay concert and has no connection to Messi’s recent spiritual visit to India.
The confusion was sparked after a video featuring a “sea of lights” began trending on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. It was claimed by several viral posts that the “unprecedented” crowd had gathered to witness Messi participate in a public aarti at the request of Anant Ambani.

While the “stadium crowd” video is false, Lionel Messi’s visit to Vantara in Jamnagar was indeed a real and historic event. However, the nature of the visit was private and spiritual rather than a public concert-style gathering.
The spread of this misinformation is being viewed as a classic case of “context collapse,” where two real events (Messi attending a Coldplay concert and Messi visiting India) are merged to create a more sensationalist narrative. While the “sea of lights” belonged to a British rock band, the respect shown by Messi toward Indian traditions remains a genuine highlight of his 2025 tour. As the video continues to be flagged by platforms, it serves as a reminder to verify before sharing in the age of viral spectacles.
