Aspiring candidates looking to secure a position within India’s vast postal network have only a few hours left to complete their initial registration for the 28,636 available posts.

This recruitment drive is one of the largest entry-level government job opportunities of the year, targeting youth across various postal circles in India. The vacancies include roles for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.

Eligibility Criteria

The India Post GDS recruitment is highly sought after because it offers a direct path into government service based on academic merit rather than a competitive written exam.

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) from a recognized board. Mathematics and English must have been studied as compulsory or elective subjects.
  • Language Proficiency: It is mandatory for applicants to have studied the local language of the postal circle they are applying for at least up to the 10th standard.
  • Age Limit: The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum is 40 years (as of January 1, 2026). Standard government age relaxations apply:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC: 3 years
    • PwBD: 10–15 years
  • Additional Skills: Candidates should have basic computer knowledge, the ability to ride a bicycle, and must possess adequate means of livelihood.

Selection Process: No Written Exam

One of the most unique aspects of the GDS recruitment is the merit-based selection process. There is no written examination or interview.

  1. Automated Merit List: A system-generated merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the 10th standard (calculated to four decimal places).
  2. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be notified and called for physical verification of their original documents.
  3. Final Engagement: Successful verification leads to the final appointment.

Salary Structure (TRCA)

Selected candidates will receive the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) plus applicable Dearness Allowance.

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 – ₹29,380
  • ABPM / Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 – ₹24,470
