New Delhi, March 11, 2026: In a significant intervention regarding the high-profile separation of actor-turned-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam, Madras High Court Advocate Saranya Natarajan has issued a poignant call for “empathy and dignity.”

The legal expert’s statement comes amidst a wave of online vitriol and social media speculation that has intensified following reports of a divorce petition filed by Sangeetha.

The Irony of Women’s Day Celebrations

Addressing the timing of recent events, Advocate Saranya highlighted a stark contrast between public optics and private turmoil. She pointed out the “irony” of Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), celebrating International Women’s Day in Mamallapuram while his wife was reportedly seeking a legal “Residence Order.”

“On the very day a petition seeking a Residence Order was reportedly filed by Sangeetha, public celebrations of Women’s Day alongside another woman created an irony that cannot be ignored,” Saranya stated.

The “other woman” reference pertains to actor Trisha Krishnan, who was seen alongside Vijay at a high-profile wedding reception on March 5, 2026. The duo’s appearance, described by many online as “twinning” in matching outfits, sparked intense debate and fueled rumors regarding the couple’s 27-year marriage.

A Call Against “Digital Violence”

Saranya Natarajan expressed deep concern over the “digital violence” directed at Sangeetha by certain sections of the public and party followers. She noted a disturbing trend where supporters of the actor-politician have allegedly targeted Sangeetha with derogatory comments, while strangers have shown more compassion.

  • Loyalty vs. Conscience: Saranya questioned the moral ground of followers who attack a woman in the midst of a personal crisis.
  • Humanity Over Image: She emphasized that empathy and justice must always remain above political influence or blind fan following.
  • Normalizing Infidelity: The advocate also voiced her stance against the public normalization of extramarital affairs, stating that displaying such situations “like a proud moment” does not make them acceptable.

Legal Clarification and Personal Stance

To avoid further misinformation, Advocate Saranya explicitly clarified that she is not representing Sangeetha Sornalingam in the divorce proceedings. Her comments, she explained, were born out of a sense of social responsibility rather than legal representation.

She also addressed the backlash she personally received after her initial social media posts on the matter, urging the public to “grow up” and move beyond conspiracy theories.

The Legal Context

Sangeetha Sornalingam has reportedly filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu Family Court, citing reasons including emotional distress and alleged adultery. She has also sought an interim order to continue residing at their matrimonial home in Chennai. The court has summoned Vijay to appear on April 20, 2026.

As the dispute continues to play out in the public eye, Saranya’s message serves as a reminder that behind the headlines are real people facing profound emotional pain. “This is not about politics,” she concluded, “this is about humanity.”
