New Delhi, April 6, 2026 – The Tamil television industry is in a state of mourning following the tragic demise of popular actress Subhashini (also known as Sasvibala). The 36-year-old actress was found dead in her rented apartment in Iyyappanthangal, near Porur, on Sunday night, April 5, 2026.
According to preliminary police reports, the actress allegedly took her own life while on a video call with her husband, Bibin Chandra, following a heated domestic dispute.
Subhashini, a native of Sri Lanka, had been living in Chennai to pursue her acting career while her husband, Bibin, resides in Bengaluru. The couple had married in April 2024 and was approaching their second wedding anniversary.
The incident reportedly occurred late Sunday night. Police sources indicate that an argument broke out between the couple during a video call regarding domestic issues. In a moment of extreme distress, Subhashini allegedly took the drastic step while the call was still active.
Distraught by what he witnessed on the screen, Bibin immediately alerted the apartment’s security personnel and local acquaintances. By the time help arrived and the door was breached, it was too late. The Porur police reached the spot shortly after and recovered her body, which was sent to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Subhashini was a familiar face in Tamil households, best known for her pivotal role in the hit Sun TV serial Kayal. Her journey in the entertainment industry began in 2012 with the film Ini Avan, and she had since worked in several short films and social awareness projects.
Colleagues and fans have expressed their shock on social media, especially as the actress was just days away from celebrating her birthday on April 12.
“She was always so professional and full of life on set. It is hard to believe that mental distress could lead to such a tragic end just days before her birthday,” shared one of her co-stars from the Kayal team.
The Chennai police have registered a case and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the domestic dispute. Because the death occurred within seven years of marriage, a Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) inquiry has also been initiated as per standard legal procedure.
Investigators are expected to examine the digital evidence and call logs to understand the nature of the conflict that preceded the incident.
