New Delhi, April 9, 2026: The National Informatics Centre (NIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has officially invited applications for the direct recruitment of Scientist-C and Scientist-D positions. This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 153 vacancies, offering a prestigious opportunity for technology professionals to contribute to India’s core digital infrastructure and e-governance initiatives.

The online registration process commenced on April 8, 2026, and eligible candidates have until April 30, 2026, to submit their applications.

The total 153 vacancies are distributed across two primary scientific grades. These roles offer high-level pay scales as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

Eligibility Criteria & Experience

NIC is seeking highly qualified professionals with specific academic backgrounds and relevant field experience.

1. Educational Qualifications

Candidates must possess a degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech), Technology (M.E./M.Tech), or relevant Science disciplines (M.Sc, MCA, M.Phil).

  • Eligible Fields: Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Data Communication, Statistics, and Mathematics.
  • Equivalencies: DOEACC ‘B’ Level or Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) are also accepted.

2. Experience Requirements

  • Scientist-C: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in research, development, or technical roles.
  • Scientist-D: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience. A PhD is considered desirable for this level.
  • Relaxation: Candidates with advanced degrees like M.Tech or M.Phil may be eligible for a 2-year relaxation in the experience requirement.

3. Age Limit (as of April 30, 2026)

  • Scientist-C: Maximum 35 years.
  • Scientist-D: Maximum 40 years.
  • Age relaxation is provided to reserved categories and service candidates as per government rules.

Selection Process

The selection for these senior technical roles follows a rigorous three-stage process:

  1. Screening Test: A preliminary examination to shortlist candidates (qualifying in nature).
  2. Academic Evaluation: Assessment of the candidate’s academic record and professional achievements.
  3. Personal Interaction/Interview: Final evaluation of technical competence and suitability for the role.

Application Fee

  • General and Others: ₹800 per post.
  • SC/ST/PwBD/Women Candidates: Exempted (Nil).
