Indian Army Opens SSCW (Tech)

New Delhi, July 9, 2026: The Indian Army has officially released the detailed notification for the prestigious Short Service Commission Women (Tech) – 39th Course (concurrently running alongside the 68th SSC Tech Men entry), opening the gates for unmarried female engineering graduates to join the military as commissioned officers.

The online application window officially opened on July 8, 2026, and will remain active until August 6, 2026 (up to 3:00 PM). For aspirants aiming to bypass standard written examinations like the CDSE or AFCAT, this technical entry scheme offers a direct path straight to the 5-day Services Selection Board (SSB) interview process based purely on engineering merit. The selected batch will commence their rigorous pre-commission military training in April 2027 at the Officers Training Academy (OTA).

Comprehensive Eligibility Criteria

To successfully cross the preliminary gate of this highly competitive entry, candidates must rigidly satisfy the following parameters laid down by the Directorate General of Recruiting:

1. Age Boundaries (As of April 1, 2027)

  • Standard Tech Applicants: Candidates must be aged between 20 and 27 years. This means applicants must be born between April 1, 2000, and March 31, 2007 (both dates inclusive).
  • Widows of Defence Personnel: A generous age relaxation is provided for widows of Indian Armed Forces personnel who died in harness. They can apply up to a maximum upper age limit of 35 years as of the calculation cut-off date.

2. Educational Prerequisites

  • Applicants must hold a full-time Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in relevant technical streams from a university recognized by the AICTE or UGC.
  • Final Year Students Eligible: Students currently in their final year/semester of engineering are completely eligible to apply. However, they must produce absolute physical proof of passing their degree examinations, along with all-semester mark sheets, by April 1, 2027. The final degree certificate must be submitted within 12 weeks of training commencement.

3. Marital Status & Nationality

  • Candidates must be unmarried female citizens of India. (Subjects of Nepal or individuals of Indian origin migrating from specified countries with the intention of settling permanently are also eligible, subject to government-issued certificates).

Detailed Selection Architecture

The hallmark of the SSCW (Tech) entry is the complete absence of a written entry exam. The evaluation is distributed across three progressive, stringent phases:

Phase 1: Merit-Based Shortlisting

The Indian Army will aggregate and evaluate semester-wise engineering scores. Applications are categorized by technical streams (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science/IT, Electronics, etc.). Cut-off percentages for each stream are expected to be published in the first week of September 2026. Only candidates clearing these stream-specific cut-offs receive call letters for the next round.

Phase 2: The SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to pick their preferred SSB center and dates. The intensive 5-day evaluation will tentatively take place between October and December 2026 at the selection centers (Kapurthala, Bengaluru, Prayagraj, or Bhopal).

Phase 3: Medical Diagnostics and Merit List

Candidates recommended by the SSB board will face a thorough medical examination conducted by a board of military doctors. Those declared medically fit will be indexed into a final all-India merit list based solely on their SSB scores. The topmost candidates matching the vacancy count will receive joining letters.

The application process is entirely digitalized and carries zero processing fees for all categories. Candidates are requested to execute their forms carefully, as mistakes in mark entry can lead to immediate disqualification during document verification.

Training Lifecycle and Financial Package

The chosen final merit awardees will report to the Officers Training Academy (OTA) to undergo an elite, rigorous 49-week pre-commission military training program. This curriculum builds physical stamina, tactical strategy, leadership, and military administration skills.

Throughout the training period, cadets receive a fixed component stipend of ₹56,100 per month. Upon the successful completion of the 49-week course, the cadets are commissioned into active service with the rank of Lieutenant. At this stage, they are transitioned to regular military pay structures under Pay Level 10, unlocking a baseline scale ranging from ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500. On top of the basic pay, officers are entitled to Military Service Pay (MSP) of ₹15,500 per month, accompanied by Dearness Allowance (DA), kit maintenance allowances, high-altitude allowances (where applicable), free medical facilities, and comprehensive insurance coverage.

This recruitment drive remains a phenomenal, highly sought-after avenue for young engineering graduates aiming to combine technical innovation with the pride of wearing the uniform, spearheading a secure and elite career path in the Indian Armed Forces.
