New Delhi, July 13, 2026: A dramatic and chaotic scene unfolded at the Agra Cantt railway station on Sunday when a heated argument between railway operations staff and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) escalated into open violence. The shocking altercation, which occurred on the station’s busy Platform 1 around 11:00 AM, resulted in a Deputy Station Superintendent (Dy SS) being physically assaulted and dragged across the platform floor by uniformed RPF personnel.

The entire incident was captured on video by onlookers and passengers, quickly going viral across social media platforms. The footage sparked massive public outrage, leading to a swift response from the Indian Railways administration, which has since suspended multiple security personnel and ordered a high-level inquiry.

How a Good Deed Triggered a Crisis

According to official railway sources and eyewitness accounts, the conflict arose from a profound misunderstanding involving the Amritsar-Visakhapatnam Hirakud Express (Train No. 20808). The train had arrived at Agra Cantt for its scheduled stoppage at 10:51 AM. As it began to slowly pull out of the station, a crisis developed on the platform.

A woman passenger from Ludhiana had stepped off the train to purchase local sweets at a platform stall. Misjudging the time, she looked back to see the train moving away with her young child still trapped inside the coach. Panic-stricken and desperate, the mother rushed to the on-duty Deputy Station Superintendent, Narendra Singh Chahar, pleading for immediate help.

Acting swiftly out of empathy and standard safety considerations, Chahar used his official operational authority to signal the train’s guard, ordering an immediate emergency halt. The train screeched to a stop shortly after departing, allowing the frantic mother to safely reunite with her child. However, this act of public service was quickly misinterpreted by platform security.

Members of the Railway Protection Force stationed nearby assumed the sudden halt was the result of an unauthorized emergency chain-pulling. When they approached to investigate, Chahar attempted to clarify that he had officially ordered the stoppage to resolve a passenger emergency. Unfortunately, the explanation did not defuse the tension. Instead, a fierce verbal argument broke out, with RPF personnel alleging that Chahar used abusive language and made accusations of financial extortion against them. The verbal dispute rapidly deteriorated into physical aggression.

Violence Captured on Camera

The viral video footage shows an escalating scuffle where multiple RPF personnel surround the station officer. Disregarding his rank and role within the station’s administration, the security officers began beating Chahar, ultimately overpowering him and violently dragging him along the concrete floor of the platform. The sight of uniform-clad security forces attacking a senior station official in full public view sent shockwaves through the crowded station, causing panic among hundreds of waiting passengers.

The assault triggered immediate fury among local railway employees. In solidarity with their injured colleague, railway staff launched a sudden 30-minute protest, disrupting administrative work at Agra Cantt station. The protest only subsided after senior divisional railway officials rushed to the spot to pacify the workers and promised immediate, uncompromising disciplinary action against the perpetrators.

Railways Crack Down: Suspensions and FIR Lodged

Taking immediate cognizance of the viral video and the severity of the institutional clash, the North Central Railway (NCR) administration launched a swift crackdown. By Sunday evening, four RPF personnel identified in the video were placed under suspension with immediate effect to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.

The suspended personnel include:

  • Meghraj Meena (Assistant Sub-Inspector) timesofindia.indiatimes.com
  • Balkishan (Assistant Sub-Inspector) timesofindia.indiatimes.com
  • Jitendra (Constable) www.indiatoday.in
  • Badan Singh (Constable) www.indiatoday.in

Dr. Shivam Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Central Railway, confirmed that the initial friction stemmed from a “confusion between RPF and the Dy SS regarding the cause of halting the train.” He stressed that such unruly behavior within the railway family would not be tolerated.

In addition to internal departmental suspensions, the matter has entered the legal domain. The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agra Cantt has formally registered a First Information Report (FIR No. 158/2026) based on a written complaint filed by the assaulted officer, Narendra Singh Chahar. According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) GRP Agra, the case has been registered under several stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 191(2) for rioting, Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and Sections 351(2) and 352 for criminal intimidation and assault. Legal proceedings are currently underway.

High-Level Inquiry Formed

To get to the bottom of the systemic breakdown between the security and operations branches, the railway administration has constituted a high-level, three-member Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) inquiry committee. The probe panel consists of top divisional heads: the Senior Divisional Operations Manager (Agra), the Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Agra), and the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of the RPF (Agra).

The committee has been ordered to fast-track its investigation and submit a comprehensive report detailing the exact sequence of events that led to the public brawl. Senior officials have stated that once the final inquiry report is tabled, further permanent disciplinary actions—potentially including termination of service—will be initiated against those found guilty under the strict provisions of the Railways Act.

The incident has raised serious questions regarding inter-departmental coordination, communication protocols, and the code of conduct expected from security forces assigned to public transport hubs. Meanwhile, normal operations at the Agra Cantt station have resumed, with extra supervisory presence deployed to maintain order and ensure passenger safety.
