Maranello has once again raised the bar for driving exhilaration with the unveiling of the Ferrari 296 Speciale, a hardcore evolution of the already formidable 296 GTB hybrid supercar. Staying true to Ferrari’s lineage of special series models like the 458 Speciale and 488 Pista, this new berlinetta is engineered to deliver an unparalleled level of driver engagement and track-focused performance.

The heart of the 296 Speciale remains the revolutionary 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, now enhanced with Formula 1-derived knock control and exotic internal components such as titanium connecting rods and reinforced pistons. This potent engine works in seamless harmony with an electric motor, pushing the total combined output to a staggering 880 horsepower – a record for a rear-wheel-drive Ferrari. The engineers have also refined the engine’s acoustics with a patented system of sound ducts, promising an even richer and more immersive auditory experience within the cabin.

But the Speciale treatment goes far beyond just a power increase. Ferrari has embarked on a significant weight-saving program, shedding approximately 60 kg compared to the GTB. This reduction comes courtesy of extensive use of carbon fiber in the bodywork and interior, including unique door panels and a center tunnel crafted entirely from the lightweight material. Titanium springs and lighter engine components further contribute to the diet, resulting in a class-leading power-to-weight ratio.

Aerodynamics have played a crucial role in shaping the 296 Speciale’s character. Inspired by the 296 Challenge race car and even featuring design cues from the FXX K, the Speciale generates a remarkable 435 kg of downforce at 250 km/h – a 20% increase over the GTB. This is achieved through a redesigned front bonnet with vents, a prominent suspended splitter, side wings modeled after the FXX K, and a new movable rear spoiler with a quicker deployment time. These aerodynamic enhancements not only boost downforce but also optimize cooling airflow and reduce drag.

To ensure that this increased performance is fully exploitable, Ferrari has meticulously tuned the chassis and electronic control systems. The ride height is lowered by 5mm, and new Multimatic adjustable dampers derived from the 296 GT3, along with titanium springs, contribute to a 13% reduction in roll angle and a 4% increase in lateral acceleration. The latest generation ABS Evo dynamic control system further enhances braking precision and repeatability, inspiring confidence at the limit.

Inside the cockpit, the focus remains firmly on the driver. While retaining the familiar Ferrari design language, the 296 Speciale features extensive use of carbon fiber and Alcantara to further reduce weight and create a purposeful, track-oriented ambiance. The door trim is a single, sculpted piece of carbon fiber, reflecting the minimalist and performance-driven ethos of the car.

The Ferrari 296 Speciale is not just about raw power and downforce; it’s about the holistic driving experience. Ferrari claims that this special series model elevates driving fun to new heights by enhancing lateral grip, acceleration, gear shifts, braking, and the emotive sound. With a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed exceeding 205 mph, the 296 Speciale promises to be a thrilling companion both on the road and the track.

While not a limited production model in terms of numbers, Ferrari has indicated that the 296 Speciale will have a shorter lifecycle, thus ensuring a degree of exclusivity for its owners. Deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with prices starting significantly above the standard 296 GTB. For those seeking the ultimate expression of Ferrari’s V6 hybrid technology, the 296 Speciale is poised to be an irresistible and unforgettable machine.
