Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ Box Office Takes a Hit on Day 4, Trails Behind ‘Saiyaara’

Ajay Devgn‘s latest film, Son of Sardaar 2, is experiencing a significant drop in its box office numbers on its fourth day, a Monday, following a decent opening weekend. The film, which is a sequel to the 2012 hit, is facing an uphill battle against the box office juggernaut Saiyaara, which continues its impressive run.

According to trade reports, Son of Sardaar 2 has seen a massive decline in collections on its first Monday, earning an estimated ₹2.50 crore. This marks a sharp drop of around 70% from its Sunday earnings. The film had a strong weekend, collecting ₹7.25 crore on Friday, ₹8.25 crore on Saturday, and ₹9.25 crore on Sunday, bringing its opening weekend total to ₹24.75 crore. However, the Monday drop signals a potential challenge for the film to sustain its momentum in the coming days.

The primary reason for this struggle appears to be the formidable competition from Saiyaara. The romantic drama, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has been a sensational blockbuster, grossing over ₹300 crore in its three-week run. Despite being in its third week, Saiyaara is still attracting a considerable number of viewers and has managed to match the collections of Son of Sardaar 2 on Monday. This a rare occurrence, where a film in its third week is collecting on par with a newly released movie.

Son of Sardaar 2 is also facing competition from another new release, Dhadak 2, and the animated mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha. While Son of Sardaar 2 managed to collect more than Dhadak 2 on Monday, it was overshadowed by Mahavatar Narsimha, which had an impressive second Monday collection.

The performance of Son of Sardaar 2 has been underwhelming compared to Ajay Devgn’s previous releases. His last film, Raid 2, had a much stronger opening and quickly crossed the ₹100 crore mark. The original Son of Sardaar (2012) was one of Devgn’s highest-grossing films, but the sequel seems to be struggling to recreate that magic. The film’s thin storyline and mixed reviews from critics and audiences have also contributed to its lack of traction.
