New Delhi, November 28, 2025: Mumbai recently gathered for a heartfelt prayer meet to honor the late Bollywood legend, Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Instead of a traditional mourning, the family organized a beautiful event titled “Celebration of Life,” reflecting the actor’s warm, joyful, and life-loving spirit. The ceremony, held at a hotel in Bandra, was a poignant blend of emotional memories, a flood of condolences, and a soulful musical tribute.
The gathering saw an immense turnout from the film fraternity, underscoring the deep respect Dharmendra, affectionately known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, commanded. The Deol family, including his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, along with grandson Karan Deol, were visibly emotional as they stood to greet the stream of well-wishers for nearly four hours.
A galaxy of stars arrived to pay their respects, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and many others. Their presence highlighted the actor’s unifying role in the industry and the collective sense of loss felt across generations.
A key feature of the ceremony was a spectacular musical tribute that turned the solemn occasion into a genuine celebration of his cinematic journey. Veteran playback singers Sonu Nigam and Prithvi Gandharv performed on a dedicated stage, weaving through the late star’s rich filmography.
Sonu Nigam’s performance included some of Dharmendra’s most iconic and romantic songs, such as “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas,” “Aapke Haseen Rukh Pe,” and the iconic friendship anthem, “Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge.” Prithvi Gandharv added to the soulful atmosphere with Gurbani, Sufi songs, and Nirgun bhajans, creating an emotionally resonant evening that left many with moist eyes. The music served as a nostalgic reminder of the charm and versatility that defined his six-decade-long career.

Large screens at the venue displayed memorable scenes from his hit films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Satyakam, alongside candid family photographs, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the tribute. The ceremony was not just about his professional achievements, but also his personal qualities.
His wife, Hema Malini, who did not attend the meet but hosted a separate prayer meet at her residence, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, describing him as her “loving husband, adoring father, friend, philosopher, guide, poet,” and her “go-to person in all times of need.” She praised his humility and universal appeal, stating that his loss was “indescribable.”
The “Celebration of Life” fittingly honored Dharmendra’s memory—a man who was celebrated not just for his screen persona but for the warmth and kindness he extended to all. The outpouring of grief and affection affirmed that the legacy of Bollywood’s beloved ‘He-Man’ will continue to inspire for generations to come.
