In a concerning health update, popular television actress and “Bigg Boss OTT” fame Sana Makbul has revealed she has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. The news comes after a period of hospitalization, initially hinted at by a friend’s social media post, which sparked worry among her fans and industry colleagues.
Makbul, who gained widespread recognition for her stint on the reality show, opened up about her challenging health journey, stating that she has been battling autoimmune hepatitis for some time, a condition where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own liver cells. Unfortunately, her condition has now progressed to liver cirrhosis, a more severe stage characterized by extensive scarring of the liver.
Speaking to a leading publication, Sana shared her determination despite the daunting diagnosis. “I’ve been living with autoimmune hepatitis for a while now, but recently things got worse. My immune system started attacking my liver more aggressively, and I’ve now been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, but I’m trying to stay strong and taking one day at a time,” she conveyed.
The actress emphasized that this health setback did not occur overnight, but rather is a culmination of a prolonged battle. The recent flare-up has forced her to temporarily step back from her work commitments, a decision that has been emotionally difficult. “This didn’t happen overnight; I’ve been managing it for a while. Recently, it flared up badly, which has made me pause my work commitments. I’ve had to pause a few things, and it breaks my heart a little, as I have worked really hard to achieve all the success, and now when things were falling into place, my health is not in great shape,” she expressed, adding a resolute note, “I may be walking slower right now, but I’m still moving, and that’s all that matters right now.”
Sana has reportedly commenced intensive immunotherapy, a treatment aimed at slowing down the damage caused by her autoimmune condition. While acknowledging the physical and emotional toll of the treatment, her primary focus is to avoid the need for a liver transplant.
Liver cirrhosis is a serious condition where healthy liver tissue is replaced by scar tissue, impeding the liver’s ability to function properly. It can lead to various complications, including fluid buildup, bleeding, and the accumulation of toxins in the brain. Autoimmune hepatitis is one of the causes that can lead to cirrhosis.
The news has prompted an outpouring of support from fans and the entertainment fraternity, with many wishing her a swift and complete recovery. Sana’s resilience and positive outlook in the face of this significant health challenge serve as an inspiration. She remains committed to her healing journey, drawing strength from her family and an unwavering belief in her ability to overcome this phase.
