On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the Mumbai Police arrested Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, in connection with a death threat issued to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The arrest came after an investigation into a threat call received by the Bandra police station last week, where an unidentified caller demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from the actor.
The case was registered under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the caller.
The Mumbai Police had summoned Faizan Khan for questioning after it was revealed that the threat call was made from a mobile phone number registered in his name. However, Khan claimed that his phone had been stolen and that he was not involved in the incident.
Despite his claims, the Mumbai Police remained unconvinced and arrested Khan from his residence in Raipur. He is currently being brought to Mumbai for further investigation.
This is the second high-profile death threat case involving a Bollywood actor in recent times. Last month, actor Salman Khan received death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The Mumbai Police have also arrested several people in connection with that case.
