January 13, 2026 – After a promising opening weekend, Sudha Kongara’s ambitious period political drama, Parasakthi, faced its first major hurdle at the box office. On its third day—the crucial first Monday—the film witnessed a significant decline in footfall, signaling a tough road ahead for its weekday performance.
According to early industry estimates from Sacnilk, Parasakthi earned approximately ₹3 crore nett in India on Day 3. This marks a steep drop of over 70% from its Sunday collections. While such a dip is expected as the festive Pongal weekend concludes and audiences return to work, the margin of the fall has sparked concern among trade analysts.
| Day | India Net Collection (Approx.) |
| Day 1 (Saturday) | ₹12.50 Crore |
| Day 2 (Sunday) | ₹10.10 Crore |
| Day 3 (Monday) | ₹3.00 Crore |
| Total (3-Day Net) | ₹25.60 Crore |
Globally, the film has managed to gross approximately ₹48 crore, bolstered by a decent ₹17.6 crore contribution from the overseas market.
The theater occupancy mirrored the downward trend on Monday. The film recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 19.70%.
While Chennai remains the primary stronghold for the film, secondary markets like Coimbatore and Madurai saw a sharper decline. Interestingly, the film faced minimal competition from Prabhas’s The Raja Saab in the Tamil market, yet it struggled to capitalize on the vacant slot left by the delayed release of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan.
The sharp decline is being attributed not just to the end of the holiday period, but also to the polarizing reviews from the audience. While many have praised Sivakarthikeyan’s earnest performance and the film’s bold take on the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitations, others have criticized the slow-paced second half and “lackluster” dialogues.
The film also navigated heavy censorship, with the CBFC demanding 25 cuts before release. These edits have reportedly resulted in some “choppy” transitions in the narrative, which may be affecting the overall cinematic experience for the viewers.
For Parasakthi to emerge as a commercial success, it needs to maintain a steady grip over the remaining weekdays. With a current domestic total of ₹25.6 crore, the film is aiming for a respectable first-week finish. However, the upcoming days will be the true test of whether its heavy political themes can continue to draw the general public.
