New Delhi, january 12, 2026: The pirate genre is steering away from “amusement park” tropes and heading into much darker, bloodier waters. New first-look images for the Amazon MGM Studios original film, The Bluff, have officially been unveiled, confirming a release date of February 25, 2026, on Prime Video.
Produced by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame) and directed by Frank E. Flowers, the film is already being compared more to a grit-soaked mafia tale than a traditional seafaring adventure.
The newly released images highlight a major physical transformation for Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She stars as Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden, a former pirate queen who has spent years trying to live a quiet life in the 19th-century Cayman Islands.
In the visuals, Chopra Jonas is seen battle-worn and fierce, signaling a role that she has described as her most physically demanding yet. The actress noted in recent interviews that her research into real-life female pirates, such as Grace O’Malley, revealed a history far more brutal than the “Disney version” many audiences expect.
The story kicks off when Ercell’s past literally sails to her doorstep. Her former crew, led by the ruthless Captain Connor (played by The Boys star Karl Urban), arrives seeking vengeance and a hidden cache of gold.
The film’s producers have described the narrative as a “home-invasion film in the scariest sense.” Rather than a quest for treasure, the movie focuses on:
While the Russos are famous for superhero spectacles, The Bluff represents a return to grounded, R-rated storytelling. Working through their company, AGBO, the brothers have emphasized that they wanted to keep the “rough edges” of the script intact.
The supporting cast adds further weight to the production, featuring Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett) as Connor’s cunning advisor and Safia Oakley-Green. With music by acclaimed composer Henry Jackman, the film is being positioned as one of Amazon’s biggest global releases of the year.
