New Delhi, December 24, 2025: A remarkable interaction between human civilization and wild nature was recently captured in a viral video from the Satrunjaya Hills in Gujarat. In the footage, which was widely circulated on December 22, 2025, a majestic Asiatic lion was observed taking a leisurely stroll up a public flight of stone steps, a route frequently used by pilgrims and tourists near the city of Palitana. As the apex predator made its unhurried ascent, several unsuspecting tourists were seen panicking and bolting in the opposite direction, creating a scene that perfectly illustrates the blurred lines between wilderness and human habitats in the Bhavnagar district.
The event was recorded during the daylight hours on a path that leads to the revered temples of Palitana. In the viral clip, the lion is seen appearing from the surrounding forest and stepping directly onto the main staircase.

The presence of lions on the Satrunjaya Hills is being noted with increasing frequency by wildlife experts in late 2025. It is believed that the expansion of the lion population beyond the boundaries of the Gir sanctuary has led to these animals being frequently sighted in pilgrimage sites and residential zones.
Following the viral success of the video, a series of safety guidelines have been reiterated by the Gujarat Forest Department. Residents and tourists have been warned against the habit of panicking or “bolting,” as sudden movements can sometimes trigger a predator’s chase instinct. As the year draws to a close, this viral moment remains a stark reminder of the unique and often nerve-wracking coexistence found in Gujarat. The “lion on the staircase” video serves as a hauntingly beautiful example of nature asserting its presence in a shared world.
