New Delhi, November 07, 2025: A significant legal step has been taken by the police in Gujarat following the viral spread of a video that falsely accused the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the owner of the Amul brand, of using harmful chemicals in its products.
A formal police case has been registered against a Rajkot-based doctor who was identified as the individual responsible for creating and disseminating the misleading video. The swift legal action was initiated in response to the video’s potential to severely damage the brand’s reputation and create undue fear among millions of consumers.
The highly circulated video clip featured the medical professional making unfounded claims about the adulteration of Amul milk and dairy products. It was alleged in the video that various dangerous chemicals were being mixed into the dairy products, directly compromising the health of consumers.
The sensational nature of the claims, combined with the professional authority of the person making them, ensured the video’s rapid virality across multiple social media platforms. The negative publicity caused significant distress within the cooperative and widespread public alarm over the safety of a household staple.

Following an official complaint was lodged by a representative of the GCMMF, the First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the doctor. The specific charges were brought under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those relating to defamation, publishing or circulating false and malicious content, and the intent to cause public mischief.
The police action was viewed as a necessary move to protect a major cooperative brand and to deter others from using social media to spread unverified, damaging information. The investigation into the doctor’s motives and the exact reach of the viral clip is currently being carried out.
In response to the controversy, official statements were issued by the GCMMF, vehemently denying all the allegations made in the video. It was strongly emphasized that Amul products are manufactured under stringent quality control standards and are subjected to regular and thorough testing by accredited laboratories.
Reassurance was provided to the consuming public that their dairy products are safe, nutritious, and compliant with all food safety regulations. The cooperative has made it clear that legal measures will be pursued aggressively against anyone found attempting to compromise the brand’s trust, which was built over decades of consistent quality and service.
