Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed deep concern over the escalating number of road accidents in the state, urging the current government to treat the issue with utmost seriousness. In a statement released earlier today, Baghel highlighted the alarming statistics and the tragic loss of lives, emphasizing the need for immediate and comprehensive measures to curb this growing menace.

“The increasing frequency of road accidents in Chhattisgarh is a matter of grave concern,” Baghel stated. “Every life lost on our roads is a tragedy, and it is imperative that the state government takes concrete steps to address this issue effectively.”

Baghel pointed out that the data reflects a disturbing trend, with a noticeable rise in accidents across various districts. He attributed the problem to a combination of factors, including poor road infrastructure, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and the burgeoning number of vehicles on the roads.

“While infrastructure development is essential, it must be accompanied by stringent traffic management and enforcement,” Baghel emphasized. “The government must invest in improving road safety measures, including better signage, well-maintained roads, and regular safety audits. Furthermore, strict action should be taken against those violating traffic rules, including drunk driving and overspeeding.”

He also called for increased public awareness campaigns to educate drivers and pedestrians about road safety practices. Baghel believes that a collaborative approach, involving the government, law enforcement agencies, and civil society, is crucial to bringing about a significant reduction in road accidents.

“It is not just about enforcing laws; it is also about fostering a culture of responsible driving and pedestrian safety,” he said. “The government must engage with communities and educational institutions to raise awareness about road safety from a young age.”

Baghel urged the current administration to prioritize road safety in its policy agenda and allocate sufficient resources to implement effective measures. He emphasized that the lives of Chhattisgarh’s citizens are invaluable, and no effort should be spared to ensure their safety on the roads.

“I implore the state government to take this matter seriously and implement comprehensive strategies to prevent further loss of lives,” Baghel concluded. “The people of Chhattisgarh deserve safe roads and a secure future.”

The former Chief Minister’s statement has resonated with many residents who have witnessed or experienced the devastating consequences of road accidents. Civil society organizations and road safety activists have also echoed his concerns, calling for immediate action from the state government. The issue now places increased pressure on the current government to respond with concrete and effective solutions to mitigate the increasing number of road accidents within the state.
