january 22, 2026: In a chilling case of suspected honor killing, the Moradabad police have arrested two men in connection with the brutal murder of an interfaith couple. The bodies of the victims, identified as 24-year-old Mohd Arman and 18-year-old Kajal Saini, were recovered on Wednesday evening from a makeshift grave near a temple on the outskirts of Umri Sabzipur village.
The couple, who lived in the same village, had gone missing three days prior. According to police reports, Arman had gone to meet Kajal on Sunday night. It is alleged that the woman’s family discovered them together, leading to a violent confrontation.
The situation escalated when members of the woman’s family reportedly thrashed the couple brutally before killing them. To conceal the crime, the perpetrators buried the bodies in the Pakbada police station area, close to the Gagan River.
The incident came to light after Arman’s family, worried by his disappearance, approached Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satpal Antil. An inquiry was immediately instituted, leading investigators to the woman’s family.
During intense questioning, the woman’s brothers reportedly broke down and confessed to the crime. SP (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh confirmed the breakthrough in the case:
“Based on the information provided during the interrogation, we have recovered the bodies of the victims. A shovel used in the crime has also been seized. We have arrested the woman’s two brothers, Rinku Saini and Satish Saini.”
The police have registered an FIR based on the complaint filed by the youth’s family. The charges include murder and the destruction of evidence.
The recovery of the bodies sparked immediate tension in the Umri Sabzipur area, as members of both communities gathered at the site. Recognizing the sensitive nature of the interfaith incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot.
To prevent any communal flare-ups, a significant police presence, including personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), has been deployed in and around the village. Authorities have urged residents to maintain peace while the legal process takes its course.
Village Pradhan Pranav Saini noted that the couple had been in a relationship for some time. While a missing person report had been filed earlier on Wednesday, the community was shocked by the discovery of the double murder just hours later.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, though preliminary findings suggest they were beaten to death with blunt objects.
