New Delhi, April 25, 2026 — In a horrifying sequence of events that has sent shockwaves through the national capital and beyond, Delhi Police have arrested a man accused of murdering the 22-year-old daughter of a senior Income Tax (IRS) officer. The investigation has revealed a disturbing timeline of violence, linking the Delhi murder to a separate, equally heinous crime committed in Rajasthan just hours prior.

The accused, identified as Rahul Meena, was apprehended in a Dwarka hotel following a swift investigation that relied on CCTV trail analysis and digital surveillance. Investigators believe his motive was tied to mounting financial pressure, specifically heavy involvement in online betting and gaming apps.

The Chilling Confession

The breakthrough in the case came from a digital trail that investigators are still piecing together. According to police sources, shortly after fleeing the scene of the murder in Delhi’s Kailash Hills, Meena made a phone call to his cousin.

During the chilling conversation, the accused reportedly admitted, “Maine Delhi mein kaand kar diya hai, main ab marne wala hoon police mujhe pakad legi” (I have committed a crime in Delhi. I may die now. The police will catch me soon). This confession, intercepted and analyzed by investigators, became a pivotal piece of evidence that helped police confirm the perpetrator’s identity and state of mind immediately following the attack.

A Trail of Violence: From Alwar to Delhi

The investigation has uncovered a terrifying spree of violence that spanned two states within a 12-hour window.

According to the police, the chain of events began on Tuesday night in Alwar, Rajasthan. Around 10:30 PM, Meena allegedly entered a neighbor’s house, where he assaulted and raped a woman. Before fleeing the scene, he reportedly strangled and threatened the survivor, warning her against reporting the incident. An FIR was registered in Alwar based on the survivor’s complaint, setting the authorities on high alert.

Undeterred, the suspect traveled nearly 200 kilometers to reach a residential society in South-East Delhi’s Kailash Hills by 6:30 AM the following morning. Using his prior familiarity with the residence—having been an employee of the family—he allegedly bypassed security arrangements to enter the house at approximately 6:39 AM.

The Crime in Kailash Hills

The victim, a 22-year-old engineering graduate who was preparing for the UPSC civil services examinations, was alone in the house at the time. Her parents, who had stepped out for their morning exercise routine, returned shortly after 8:00 AM to find their daughter lying in a pool of blood. The house had been ransacked, with personal belongings strewn across the floor.

Forensic analysis and police reports suggest a brutal struggle. Meena allegedly struck the victim with a lamp and other heavy objects before strangling her. Investigators suspect that he also sexually assaulted the victim while she was unconscious. In a calculated effort to conceal his tracks, he dragged her body from the study room, forced open a locker using the victim’s finger, and eventually broke it open to steal cash and jewelry. He then reportedly changed into the victim’s brother’s clothes to evade detection before fleeing the scene.

Swift Police Action

The Delhi Police launched an immediate, multi-pronged investigation. CCTV footage from the housing society became the primary tool for detectives. Footage showed the accused entering the premises at 6:28 AM wearing a yellow shirt and black trousers, and exiting at 7:22 AM carrying a backpack and wearing different attire.

By tracking the auto-rickshaw the suspect boarded after leaving the society, investigators were able to trace his path to a hotel in Dwarka. Raids conducted at the hotel resulted in his arrest. Police successfully recovered over Rs 1 lakh in cash and jewelry stolen from the officer’s residence, confirming that the hotel stay had been funded by the proceeds of the crime.

Motivation Under the Scanner

While the brutality of the crime suggests a premeditated attack, investigators are digging deeper into the suspect’s background. Initial interrogations point toward severe financial distress. Meena was allegedly heavily involved in online betting platforms, such as Teen Patti and other gaming apps, and had accumulated significant debts.

Family members of the accused have claimed that his visit to Delhi was an attempt to resolve a dispute regarding a mobile phone and money, asserting that he had gone to retrieve his device after losing it in a game. However, police are treating this narrative with skepticism, focusing instead on the broader financial and behavioral patterns that led to the escalation of his criminal activities.

Ongoing Investigation

The accused is currently in police custody. Authorities plan to take him to both Alwar and Delhi to reconstruct the crime scenes, a crucial step in the judicial process to ensure the evidence is airtight.

The autopsy report conducted at AIIMS, Delhi, has confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation, with additional findings of multiple abrasions and a nasal fracture, underscoring the violence of the encounter. Forensic samples have been preserved to confirm the allegations of sexual assault.

As the case continues to unfold, it has reignited conversations regarding safety, the risks of online gambling, and the need for stringent background checks for household employees. The victims’ families in both Rajasthan and Delhi are left devastated, waiting for the legal process to bring closure to this tragic chapter.
