New Delhi, December 24, 2025: In a disturbing incident that has sparked statewide outrage, a 29-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted by a political worker after she requested him to stop bursting high-decibel firecrackers in front of her house. The incident occurred during the birthday celebrations of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The confrontation took place on Sunday evening, December 21, in Mutyalavaripalle village, Tanakallu mandal. According to police reports, the accused, identified as Ajay Dev, along with his family members, was celebrating the YSRCP chief’s birthday by cutting a cake and bursting loud fireworks directly in front of the victim’s residence.
The victim, Pushpala Sandhya Rani, who is six months pregnant, reportedly came out of her home and pleaded with the group to stop. She explained that the loud noise and smoke were causing her extreme physical discomfort and distress.
Witnesses state that instead of complying, Ajay Dev entered into a heated verbal altercation with the woman, allegedly using abusive language. As the argument escalated, the situation turned violent.
According to Kadiri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sivannarayana Swamy, the accused:
Sandhya Rani was immediately rushed to the Kadiri Government Hospital. While initial reports from doctors suggested the baby’s movements were temporarily affected, medical officials have since confirmed that both the mother and the unborn child are currently in stable condition and under observation.
Following the assault, the accused fled the village. However, acting on a formal complaint, the Tanakallu police tracked down and arrested Ajay Dev on Tuesday near BT Cross on the Kadiri-Madanapalle road.
In a move to signal a “zero-tolerance” policy regarding crimes against women, the police paraded the accused through the streets as a warning to others. The DSP emphasized that the department is treating the case with “utmost seriousness” and that further legal proceedings are underway.
The incident has taken on a political hue, with local leaders condemning the violence. Kadiri TDP MLA Kandikunta Venkata Prasad visited the victim in the hospital, assuring the family of full legal support and demanding strict punishment for the perpetrator.
The case has ignited a broader conversation on social media regarding “celebratory violence” and the safety of citizens during political events.
