New Delhi, July 11, 2026 — The incident, which took place late Friday afternoon, triggered widespread panic across the entire industrial zone as thick columns of black smoke billowed into the sky, visible from several kilometers away. Prompt emergency response and an immediate evacuation protocol ensured that approximately 50 workers present inside the plant were brought to safety, preventing any loss of life or serious injuries.

The fire erupted at JD Engineering Private Limited, a well-known manufacturing plant dedicated to producing domestic appliances and kitchen electronics, including mixers, grinders, juicers, gas stoves, and kitchen chimneys. According to fire department officials, the first emergency call reporting the blaze was received at approximately 4:20 PM. Within minutes, the fire intensified rapidly, spreading across the upper floors and engulfing the entire tin-shed structure of the manufacturing unit.

Swift Evacuation and Emergency Response

At the time the fire broke out, around 50 employees were actively working on the production lines. As soon as the administrative staff and workers noticed the sparks and subsequent smoke, emergency alarms were raised, and an organized evacuation was initiated. Thanks to the presence of functioning exit routes and the quick thinking of the plant management, all on-duty personnel managed to scramble out of the premises before the flames could seal off the exit points.

As the gravity of the situation became apparent, the Kundli Industrial Area (KIA) Association immediately utilized its internal communication channels and WhatsApp alert groups to inform nearby factory owners. Fearing that the fire could spread to adjacent manufacturing units, local authorities and industrial association leaders cooperated to evacuate nearby factories as a precautionary measure.

Multi-Station Firefighting Operation Controls the Blaze

The scale of the fire required a heavily coordinated response from multiple fire stations across Haryana and neighboring regions. A total of 14 fire tenders were deployed to the site to battle the raging inferno. Emergency vehicles were rushed from various local stations, including Kundli, Rai, Kharkhoda, Ganaur, Education City, and Sector 23. Recognizing the proximity of the industrial area to the Delhi-Haryana border, additional fire engines were brought in from Narela in Delhi to bolster the firefighting efforts.

The fire crews faced significant challenges in containing the flames due to the high volume of highly combustible raw materials stored inside the electronics plant. The presence of large stockpiles of plastic components, electrical wiring, packaging cardboard, and insulating materials acted as fuel, causing the fire to spread with intense heat. Firefighters had to cut through sections of the collapsed tin roofs to create ventilation and directly target the core of the blaze.

It took more than three hours of continuous, aggressive firefighting operations to bring the main flames under control. After successfully stopping the fire from spreading to neighboring plots, fire crews transitioned into a prolonged cooling operation that extended well into the night. This step was crucial to ensure that hidden embers trapped beneath the debris and warped metal structures would not reignite.

Loss Assessment and Preliminary Investigation

While a catastrophic loss of life was successfully averted, the material and financial damage to the factory is extensive. Preliminary assessments indicate that the first floor of the building, along with its heavy machinery, structural tin sheeting, and massive inventories of both raw materials and ready-to-ship kitchen appliances, has been completely destroyed.

The exact financial evaluation of the property damage is yet to be finalized. Senior administrative officials stated that a joint inspection alongside the factory owner, Honey Khullar, will be conducted once the structure is declared completely safe to enter.

Regarding the origin of the fire, preliminary investigations by the fire department point toward a short circuit in the main electrical wiring or a power distribution board on the upper floor. Witnesses reported seeing initial sparks near the wiring infrastructure right before the fire spread to the packaging section. However, a formal investigation has been launched by local police and structural safety inspectors to pinpoint the exact technical failure and verify if the facility was fully compliant with standard industrial fire safety protocols.

Background: Growing Safety Concerns in Industrial Hubs

This incident adds to a series of industrial fires recorded in the region’s expanding manufacturing clusters over recent years. Just a few months prior, a major fire affected multiple appliance-manufacturing units near NIFTEM in the same industrial zone. Local industrial bodies are urging authorities to step up periodic electrical safety audits and simplify emergency access routes, ensuring that Sonipat’s rapidly expanding manufacturing infrastructure remains safe for thousands of daily workers.

Local police have registered a diary entry regarding the incident, and further statements from factory supervisors and eyewitnesses are being recorded as the investigation progresses.
