December 18, 2025: In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a father and his son, both accused in a cow slaughter case, were injured in a police encounter in the Parikshitgarh area of Meerut. The confrontation occurred while the suspects were being led by a police team to recover hidden tools allegedly used in the crime.

The Initial Raid and Arrests

The case began earlier in the week when Meerut police received a tip-off regarding illegal activities in the Asifabad village. Acting on this intelligence, a team conducted a raid on a local residence. During the operation, officials recovered approximately 10 kg of beef, which has since been sent to a laboratory for forensic testing.

Following the raid, police arrested seven individuals, including the primary suspect, 47-year-old Razzaq, his 22-year-old son Usman, and Razzaq’s wife. During the subsequent interrogation, Razzaq and Usman reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed that the butchering tools and illegal firearms were hidden in a remote sugarcane field in the Jhabhapuri forest area.

Encounter in the Sugarcane Fields

On Wednesday, a police team escorted the father and son to the designated spot for the recovery of evidence. According to Meerut (Rural) Superintendent of Police, Abhijeet Kumar, the situation turned violent when the suspects reached the hidden cache.

“Upon reaching the forest area, the suspects attempted to flee. They retrieved two country-made pistols that were hidden among the tools and opened fire on the police team,” officials stated.

In the ensuing exchange of fire, the police fired in self-defense. Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs—Razzaq in the left leg and Usman in the right. They were immediately apprehended and transported to a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical treatment. Their condition is currently reported to be stable.

Evidence Recovered

Following the encounter, the police successfully secured the site and recovered several incriminating items:

  • Two country-made pistols and live ammunition.
  • Knives and specialized tools used for slaughtering.
  • Additional forensic evidence from the scene.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

This incident is part of a broader crackdown by the Uttar Pradesh police on illegal cow slaughter, a sensitive issue that has recently led to the suspension of several officers in the region for “negligence.”

The suspects now face additional charges under the IPC for attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act, alongside their existing charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Superintendent Kumar emphasized that the police are maintaining a “zero-tolerance” policy toward such crimes and that further arrests may follow as the investigation continues into the supply chain of the recovered meat.
