New Delhi, December 1, 2025: A series of viral videos, circulated heavily during the recent holiday season, has prompted Ocean Spray to launch an official investigation into claims that some cans of their jellied cranberry sauce were found to contain only water. The videos, which quickly garnered millions of views across various social media platforms, created a significant stir, especially among consumers preparing their holiday meals.

Water Allegedly Found in Cans

The videos, appearing to be uploaded by separate consumers, documented the process of opening cans of the popular cranberry sauce, only to reveal a clear, watery substance instead of the expected firm, jellied product. In one prominent TikTok video, a woman was observed poking into the can, expressing disbelief as she found clear liquid inside. Another piece of footage showed a family using a knife to open several cans, with two already opened ones appearing to be filled with water, and a third being opened on camera to reveal a similar result.

These clips, which collectively accumulated millions of views, immediately led to speculation about a major manufacturing error or even potential digital manipulation. The unusual nature of the claim, involving a staple holiday product, ensured that the videos were widely shared and discussed.

Ocean Spray Initiates Investigation

Following the rapid dissemination and high visibility of the claims, an official statement was released by Ocean Spray. The company confirmed that it was aware of a few reports concerning cans containing water instead of cranberry sauce and stated that an immediate investigation was being launched to determine the cause.

In the company’s statement, it was acknowledged that while millions of families had enjoyed their cranberry sauce this holiday season, “even one can of sauce not meeting expectations matters to us.” Furthermore, the company indicated that the individuals who shared the viral videos were being reached out to so that more information could be gathered and the issue could be made right.

Hoax Theories Are Circulated

As the videos gained traction, theories concerning a potential hoax also began to circulate online. Some social media users pointed out that the videos might have been staged or even generated by artificial intelligence. However, the manufacturer’s decision to seriously investigate the claims suggested that the possibility of a rare production malfunction had not been entirely ruled out.

The situation was further complicated by the fact that many online users misinterpreted the proper method of opening the cans, which are typically labeled upside down to allow the jellied sauce to slide out intact due to an air bubble at the top (the rounded end). Despite this common consumer confusion, the contents of the cans shown in the viral videos were unambiguously liquid, prompting the company’s full review.
