New Delhi, November 21, 2025: A provocative act of political vandalism, which was committed against a public poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Panipat, has recently been captured on video. The short clip, showing a youth painting the Prime Minister’s face black, has rapidly circulated across various social media platforms, sparking immediate controversy and political fallout.
The viral video clearly shows an unidentified young man standing near a large, publicly displayed poster featuring the image of the Prime Minister. Black paint was deliberately applied to the face on the poster by the individual. The act was performed openly, and the recording of the incident was seemingly intended for wide circulation. The defacement was immediately viewed as a direct act of political protest and disrespect towards the country’s highest office.

Following the rapid viral spread of the video and the outcry from local political workers, the matter was swiftly brought to the attention of the Panipat Police. A formal complaint was immediately filed by local party officials regarding the act of vandalism and the deliberate attempt to cause public mischief. The police investigation has been launched to identify the youth responsible for the painting and the person who was involved in filming and distributing the video. Legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is expected to be taken against the accused individuals once they are identified.
The incident was met with strong condemnation from the ruling party and its supporters. The act was described as a cheap political stunt and a gross act of disrespect toward a democratically elected leader. Statements were issued by party spokespersons, emphasizing that disagreement and political rivalry should be expressed through democratic means and not through acts of public property defacement or vandalism. The incident was utilized by party leaders to highlight what was termed the declining standards of political discourse.
The viral video has ignited a sharp debate on social media about the boundaries between freedom of expression and public decorum. While the act of painting the poster was defended by some users as a symbolic form of protest against current policies, the majority of the public opinion was centered on the necessity of maintaining respect for national leaders, regardless of political affiliation. The defacement of public property was criticized as an unacceptable method of dissent. The overall sentiment was that the symbolic action was overshadowed by the method of its execution.
