New Delhi, December 12, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Raghav Chadha has publicly shared his preferred vacation spot within India, pointing to Kerala as his favorite domestic destination. Known globally as “God’s Own Country,” Kerala’s unique blend of geographical beauty and cultural richness holds a special appeal for the politician, offering a paradise with stunning backwaters, extensive tea plantations, beautiful coastlines, and a vibrant cultural environment.

A South Indian Escape

Chadha’s admission shines a spotlight on the diverse tourism offerings of the South Indian state. Kerala presents a stark contrast to the politician’s usual bustling environment in Delhi and the political landscape of Punjab, the state he represents in the Rajya Sabha. His choice highlights a personal preference for destinations that combine natural splendour with a distinct local flavour.

The state is a celebrated hotspot for domestic and international travellers alike, offering various experiences:

  • Alleppey (Alappuzha): Often dubbed the ‘Venice of the East,’ Alleppey is famous for its enchanting backwaters, canals, and lagoons. The serene houseboat cruises here allow visitors to glide past picturesque paddy fields and coconut groves, offering a close look at the essence of Kerala’s village life. Key attractions include the Vembanad Lake and the Nehru Trophy Boat Race.
  • Munnar: A hill station situated about 1,600 meters above sea level in the Western Ghats, Munnar is known for its signature rolling green hills covered in lush tea plantations. Its cool, misty climate makes it a year-round retreat. Tourists flock to sites like the Eravikulam National Park and the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate.
  • Kochi (Cochin): As one of India’s oldest port cities, Kochi is a blend of cultures, reflecting its history with the Arabs, Dutch, and Portuguese. Its colonial-era bungalows and European churches offer old-world charm, complemented by a rich maritime legacy and a reputation as a seafood paradise.

More Than Just a Leisure Spot

While travel and exploration are among Chadha’s leisure activities, alongside reading books and following sports like badminton and cricket, his recent public engagements have focused on pressing issues related to travel and the common commuter. He has recently raised concerns in the Rajya Sabha regarding the high cost of domestic air travel, arguing that flights to Indian destinations like Lakshadweep are significantly more expensive than international ones like the Maldives, which discourages domestic tourism. He has also been vocal about the “unbearable burden” of highway tolls on citizens.

However, his personal preference for Kerala underscores the state’s enduring charm as a go-to sanctuary within India, suggesting that even amid a demanding public life, the serene beauty of the backwaters and the misty air of the tea estates provide a necessary respite.
