New Delhi, November 18, 2025: A Mumbai bakery’s quick thinking has been credited with exposing an attempt to obtain a fraudulent refund for a Zomato order. It has been reported that an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated image of a damaged cake was used by a customer to claim a full refund of ₹1,820.
The customer, identified as Aditi Singh, was called out by the dessert shop, Dessert Therapy, after she allegedly submitted the fake image to support her claim of “chocolate spillage all over.” The refund was demanded for an Almond Praline Strawberries Dark Chocolate Cake.
When proof of the spillage issue was requested, an AI-generated picture was supplied by the customer. However, the image was quickly identified as fake by the bakery. Discrepancies were highlighted by Dessert Therapy, particularly concerning the inconsistent rendering of the cream, the strawberries, and the “Happy Birthday” tag in the AI image.
This incident was shared on Instagram by Dessert Therapy, where it was described as an “abomination.” It was noted that false claims are frequently encountered by the brand on food delivery platforms, though the use of AI in this manner was deemed particularly egregious. The bakery’s action in sharing the case is seen as a measure to combat such rising digital fraud.
